“Deep into that darkness peering, long I stood there wondering, fearing,
Doubting, dreaming dreams no mortals ever dared to dream before;
But the silence was unbroken, and the stillness gave no token,
And the only word there spoken was the whispered word, "Lenore?"
This I whispered, and an echo murmured back the word, "Lenore!" —
Merely this, and nothing more”
Edgar Allan Poe, The Raven

Herman Melville, Moby-Dick
“No man, for any considerable period, can wear one face to himself and another to the multitude, without finally getting bewildered as to which may be the true.”

Transcendentalism holds that the world we perceive with our senses is not all of existence and reality.

There is a transcendent reality that lies beyond sensual experience.
