African Animal Adaptations
Transcript of African Animal Adaptations
African animals have many adaptations today you will experience a few
You have to be
in the African savannah it's
eat or be eaten there!!! Some animals are especialy adapted for being a fast runner such as the cheatah, ostrich, or gazele's.
"Female lions are the pride's primary
hunters. They often work
together to prey upon antelopes, zebras, wildebeest, and other large
animals of the open grasslands. Many of these animals are faster than
lions, so teamwork pays off" (African Lion 1)
Baboons the world's largest monkey. Baboons are fond of crops. They eat vegetation, but also have a taste for meat. They eat birds, rodents, and even the young of larger mammals(Baboon). This is good because if crops run low they can eat meat or the other way around.
"In the spring, antelopes give birth to one or two young, which can outrun a human after just a few days"(antelope 1).

Animals have adapted to have a

system , for instance the male ostrich has an odd call. It can make a booming sound. Both males and females may make deep hissing sounds when threatened.
Animals must use
to either hide from prey as a predator or hide from a predator as prey.
I was never here
Animals must have
can either keep out predators or hide them from them. Meerkats have burows that protect them from any predators nearby.
I'm not allowed to talk

Mayflies have one of the shortest lifespans. They usually have around an hour to (LIVE)be born, to mate, and lay eggs.

You must work with anyone you can in the savannah."African wild dogs hunt in formidable,
packs of 6 to 20 (or more) animals. Larger packs were more common before the dogs became endangered. Packs hunt antelopes and will also tackle much larger prey, such as wildebeests, particularly if their quarry is ill or injured. The dogs supplement their diet with rodents and birds" (african-hunting-dog 1)
the pride's territory, which may include some 100 square miles (259 square kilometers) of grasslands, scrub, or open woodlands. These intimidating animals mark the area with urine, roar menacingly to warn intruders, and chase off animals that encroach on their turf"(African-Lion).
Bugs like fleas aggravate our animal friends. They pass diseases and just plain old aggravate them. To prevent this animals like the elephant swat the bugs off their back, leaving them happy and healhy.
