Transcript of Lord Of the Flies

Roger represents/shows power by hurting other people. he shows this from this quote in the book. "High overhead , Roger, with a sense of delirious abandonment, leaned all his weght on the lever. Characters that represent Light and Darkness. Ralph shows us in the story that he's the good guy by having control of the conch. he does this by blowing on the conch and all the people who hear came to him. he also discussed of rules when having the conch. he shows this by telling "everyone that they can't talk at once, And they have to raise their 'Hands up' like their at school, in order for that person to speak"(Golding 33). Ralph shows good by standing up for piggy Ralph also shows a little dark side to him in the novel when he goes to hunt the pig he's full of "fright and apprehension and pride" he says "I hit him". "I hit him all right". The spear stuck in I wounded him". "He thought to him self that hunting was good after all"( 113). The Good side of Ralph The Good side of Jack Merridew Jack Merridew shows us that he has good inside of him. For example, he hunts for the tribe, provides food for evreyone to eat. "Then jack lept to his feet, slshed off a great hunk of meat, and flung it down at Simon's feet". This shows that there is some good in jack, but he has a mean, cruel, and nasty way of showing it. Thesis Statement : Lord Of the Flies Ralph and Jack show us that their is darkness and light inside every man. Ralph is described as a boy with "fair hair"(7) ,"has a handsome attractive and boxer like appearance"(22) Interactions with characters Jack and Ralph have some interactions between each other in the novel. Jack acts as a foil to Ralph representing Ralph's characteristics of social order, fairness, and we see more clearly of Jack's violence , savage actions, impulsiveness, the similarities between Ralph and Jack show us that their is darkness and light in side every man. Jack Merridew he uses power to control people. He uses it for Violence, and having control over the "lilluns" Jack gets off on power and abuses his position above all others in novel. Like the way he let Simon faint under his watch;"But, Merridew. Please ... can't we?" then one of the boys flopped on his face in the sand and the line broke up. They heaved the fallen boy to the platform and let him lie. Merridew, his eyes staring, made the best of a bad job. This shows that Jack doesn't really care about the boys he just wants to be in control and be worshiped like an idol. He also takes part in Simon's death. "Simon was crying out something about a dead man on hill. At once the crowd surged after it, poured down the rock, leapt on to the beast, screamed, struck, bit tore. There were no words, and no movements but the tearing of teeth and claws" (152-153).That shows that Ralph also has darkness inside of him because he helps Jack's gang kill Simon, he committed murder and even though piggy tried to convince him that they had nothing to do with it, but, he knows himself that that was murder and he was a part of it. So, even though Ralph maybe the good guy but he actually has darkness inside of him. The Bad side of Jack Merridew The Bad side of Ralph Jack Merridew is described as a tall, thin, bony; and his hair was red beneath the black cap. his face was crumpled and freckled, and ugly without silliness (20). Light and Darkness It's like the Yin and Yang sign. Jack and Ralph represent the Yin and Yang sin because it describes them as polar opposite, it shows how they interconnect to the natural world, and how they give rise or hope to each other in turn of relation to each other. Yin and Yang are based on the branches of Science and Philosophy. Interactions between Characters continue.. Work Cited :
