The Hero's Journey
The Hunger Games

The Call to Adventure
Katniss and her sister Primrose attend the reaping together along with the other teenagers of the District. Originally Primrose is drawn from the bucket by Effie Trinket for the Hunger Games, However, Katniss does not approve and she begins to fight through the guards and volunteers in place of Primrose so she can stay safe at the district. Effie Trinket then calls Katniss to the stage and then draws Peeta's name from the bucket and he joins Katniss on stage. They have both been given a few minutes to say their goodbyes to their loved ones before they hop on to the train and head to the Capitol where the adventure begins.

The Refusal of The Call
There is no refusal of the call from either tribute. Both Peeta and Katniss have been chosen for the Hunger games and do not get a chance to refuse. They both however have doubts as one could tell when watching the movie. Yet they do not refuse the call and take this adventure head on.
The Meeting With The Mentor
They both meet the mentor, Haymitch, on the train on the way to Capitol, Haymitch was a previous winner of the Hunger Games for District 12. Haymitch, at the time, seemed to be nothing more than a drunk. He didn't seem to provide a lot of support or advice for Katniss or Peeta at the time. The only piece of advice that he could provide while on the train was to tell them to get people to like them. If people like them, that would lead to sponsors and so on. Other than that, the initial meeting with the mentor didn't seem to be pleasant.

The Ordinary World
Crossing The Threshold
Peeta and Katniss cross the threshold as they cross over from their small area known as District 12 over to Capitol. They quickly notice how different things are at Capitol. How people are dressed so differently, how big Capitol really is, and they see how there is a different world outside of District 12. They cross another threshold after being dressed up and entering the arena in such a spectacular manner. All eyes were on them as they stood out from every other tribute there. Once they saw life at the Capitol, they knew that there was a different world outside of all the Districts.
Tests, Allies, Enemies
Both Peeta and Katniss, along with the tributes of other Districts, are put through multiple tests of ability and fitness so they could be ranked individually before entering the games. Once the games commence, it isn't very long before Katniss realizes that Peeta, Kato, Glimmer, Marvel, and Clove had formed an alliance. Kato and his members picked up Peeta so he could lead them to Katniss. Further along in the story, Katniss teams up with Rue. At this point, it is fairly well established that Kato and his members have become enemies to Katniss. The Hunger Games test each individuals will to survive. Katniss is put through pain which tests her will to keep going.
Approach to The Inmost Cave
This could literally be when Katniss and Peeta were in the cave together. At this point Katniss had to confront her feelings for Peeta. She realized how she felt about him after seeing him in an unbearable state. She never felt like this before and ultimately has to come in to terms with her feelings. for Peeta. She has a flash back of Gale, and she reflects on thoughts of him. However, she realizes that Peeta is the man she truly likes,

The Ordeal
One of the ordeals in this movie is towards the end of the film where the winner is supposed to be announced. There was a point where there was a rule change, and two tributes of the same district could reign as the winners of the Hunger Games. However, once Katniss and Peeta are the last two left, the rule is revoked and there can only be one winner. When they both find this out, they were about to attempt suicide until the last announcement was made for them to stop and that they both won. This is an ordeal because she essentially beats the system. This causes the game maker and all who run the games, to be fairly upset with her because she beats them at their game.

The Reward
There are many things that could be considered an award in this particular movie. One of the many could be life. They both win the Hunger Games which allows them to live and return to their districts. Another reward for them is that they essentially both beat the system because they both won. For 73 years, there had only been one winner, until Katniss and Peeta came along and realized there love for one another while in the Hunger Games. They beat the system by almost killing themselves at the end by eating the berries. They are stopped, and they both win. This causes an uprising amongst the game makers. At the end of the day, they both win, beating the Hunger Games system.

The Road Back
The road back for both Katniss and Peeta seems to be relieving as for the fact that they get to return to their home, District 12. During this time, Peeta shows his love for Katniss on the train.
There is a time when Katniss and Peeta both face death as they are the last two left at the end of the Hunger Games. They both almost eat the berries at the end until they are told that they both win. There is no complete resurrection in this movie. However, there was the time that Katniss was stung by the "tracker jackers" and was out for a few days. Once she came back, it was as if she was resurrected.
Return With The Elixir
The elixir in this movie, could be the mocking jay pin that Katniss brings back. This is the pin that she gave her sister, who gave back to Katniss before she left for Capitol. She kept it all through the Hunger Games. She returns with it to District 12. The pin could represent her surviving for her sister, and keeping her promise of letting nothing harm her. Another elixir could be the hope of both Katniss and Peeta returning to District 12 together. They both had hopes of coming home together, and at the end, their wish came true. Therefore, the hope of them coming home together could also be the elixir.
Katniss and Peeta live in District 12. Since their district is so far away from the Capitol, they do not receive a lot of money, therefore this district is riddled with poverty. The daily life for Katniss is taking care of her younger sister, and hunting using her bow and arrow. Their daily life seems to be in a very gloomy environment, and the citizens seem to be in fear of being chosen for the Hunger Games.
