We need to answer four Essential Questions to fully understand this impactful period of history OVERVIEW UNITS

The following content will identify important features of the period (1750-1918) as part of an expansive chronology that helps students understand broad patterns of historical change. The Industrial Revolution then provides the foundation from which the other depth studies emerged and flourished. The nature and significance of the Industrial Revolution and how it affected the living and working conditions, including Australia 1. What were the changing features of the movements of people from 1750 to 1918? 2. How did new ideas and technological developments contribute to change in this period icluding Australia? 3. What was the origin, development, significance and long-term impact of imperialism in this period? 4. What was the impact of World war One? Political Consequences The Curriculum at Penleigh and Essendon Grammar School will take a sequential approach to the study of history in a global sense and identify Australia’s development in this world- view. It will provide students with an awareness of family history and community heritage, to Australia’s British and emerging National Identity to understanding Australia’s multicultural development and finding its place within the Asia-Pacific region and global setting. Within this context, students will be equipped with the higher order thinking skills necessary to analyse and evaluate the deeper historical concepts of the senior history curriculum. The Year 9 History curriculum provides a study of the Making of the Modern World from 1750 to 1918.

It was a period of industrialisation and rapid change in the ways people lived worked and thought. It was the era of nationalism and imperialism and the colonisation of Australia was part of the expansion of European power. The period culminated in the outbreak of World War One.
