Transcript of Cultural Identity
What is cultural identity?
Consider the author's use of the words "static" and "dynamic" in paragraph 8 to explain cultural identity. What can you, the reader, conclude about the author's point, and how does that relate to cultural identity?
What is meant by the "invisibility of one's own culture?"
Why do members of the same culture have differences in their beliefs and actions?
What is Cultural Identity?
I will separate you into groups of 4-5 people.
There is a document in the folder I am sharing with you, named Group What is Cultural Identity.
As a group you will look at the document and answer each question.
However, you will assign one person in the group to type the answers. Only that person will turn in the assignment for the group through Google Drive in the folder they are sharing with me.
Include the names of everyone in your group.
Everyone must cooperate and help each other out. If not, you will all have to work on the document separately.
I will go to each group to answer any questions.
Try your best. This won't be easy, but you have me and each other as help.

As you read the text, underline, highlight, or take note of information that helps you define the concept of cultural identity.
Cultural identity is often defined as the identity of a group, culture or an individual, influenced by one's belonging to a group or culture.
• Members of an ethnic group may share racial origin but they probably also share other cultural characteristics, e.g. history, religion, language, common geographical origin, politics etc.
Cultural identity is not just defined by a group or culture with which you identify. Cultural identity also consists of racial, religious, class, gender, sexuality and familial identities.
These include ways of living, customs, practices, places, objects, artistic expressions and values. They are passed from generation to generation.
Each individual inherits some but not all cultural heritage (customs, beliefs, values, etc.) of their cultural group.
