5 W's of History
When you are watching/reading about a historical event there are always 5 w's to help you understand what it going on
"Who" is the main character(s) that are involved in the event.
1. W= Who
*In the event of Titanic- the people on board are the "who"
*In the event of landing on the moon, Neil Armstrong is the "who"
In a historical event there is always a setting.
"Where" will examine the location that the event takes place.
(The city, town, room, country)
* Landing on the moon- the moon is the "where"
*Titanic- "where" is the Atlantic Ocean
2. W= Where
What stands for "what" is happening... What are you talking about.
3. W= What
* The "what" of Titanic is the ship crashing into an iceberg
* The "what" of Sept 11 is when the planes crashed into the twin towers
We learned yesterday that events that happen in the past are history.
The "when" is the date of the event you are discussing

* Your birthday is part of your own history
* 4th of July is the date when The United States gained it's independence.
4. W= When
Last, when an event makes "history" there is a reason. The "Why" is explaining why the event is important (then and now).

* Pearl Harbor is important because when Japan bombed the US, we became involved in WWII
*Rosa Parks helped start the Civil Rights movement for people of all races
5. W= Why
"The 1922 discovery by Howard Carter and George Herbert, of Tutankhamun's nearly intact tomb received worldwide press coverage. It sparked a renewed public interest in ancient Egypt, for which Tutankhamun's burial mask remains the popular symbol. Exhibits of artifacts from his tomb have toured the world."
