Transcript of Irish Civil War

Double click anywhere & add an idea The Irish Civil War The war was between the Irish nationalsts, the forces of the New Irish free State, who supported the Anglo Irish Treaty, and the Republican opposition, for whom the Treaty represented a betrail of the Irish Republic In the Irish Cival War they were executions that took place, unlike the U.S. Civil War where there where no executions. Richard Mulcahy (the man in the photo) instituted the policy of executions of the Republican prisoners. The Irish and the United States Civil Wars were both short battles. They were both also bloody wars. One difference that the U.S. civil war and the Irish civil war is what caused the wars. The U.S. civil war was started becuse of states' rights and slavery. The Irish civil war started because the british empire assaulted, conquered, and forced its ways on the Irish people. After fighting county against county, the british used and abused ireland until they seperated. The Irish war was only over a year long. On the other hand the U.S. Civil war was four years long. The outcome of the Irish civil war was the Irish Free state defeated the anti -Treaty forces. The Irish society after the war was left divided, and embittered for decades after. The outcome to the Irish war was different form the U.S. civil war because the United States war deffeat was accepted and the Irish war was just won, but they kept fighting. My solution would be to make the Anglo Irish Treaty fair for all of Ireland. So, everyone would be able to input thier ideas into the treaty, so they all would be happy. www.google.com, http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Why the irish civil war started, http://en.wikipedia.org, http://www.uscivilwar.com/, http://www.absolueastronomy.com/topics/Irish Civil War. The issues that caused the war was that people did not agree with the Anglo Irish Treaty.
