Popular Culture: The Impact of Forrest Gump
Forrest Gump what is it?
Who is this?
So how does Forrest Gump impact American culture?
How is Forrest Gump's cultural impact measured? Well for starters it is an extremely popular movie that is still being watched today for educational purposes as well as for entertainment purposes.. In fact a themed restaurant named the Bubba Gump Shrimp factory based from the movie opened in 1996 and since then has spread to many locations overseas.
To conclude Gump is seeing America through a different glass. Forrest Gump re-visualized American history
by “[altering] popular memories of the of the sixties“ (Wang 93) and this was how it had a huge
cultural impact on America in the nineties.
Forrest Gump is a national favorite past time movie that is the symbolic heart of America. Released in 1994 and based on the 1986 novel Forrest Gump by Winston Groom, the movie was a commercial success garnering a box office of $673 million (Moller 67).
This is Forrest Gump, who comes to impact many
historical events throughout the movie despite his less than average intelligence. His impact in these historical events comes from his lack of ability to see things as they are. This is what leads the movie to culturally significant impact on the audience.
Forrest Gump impacts popular culture by repainting how historical events such as these...
..were painted. This very element gives way to a satirical perspective of huge history events that occur and also why Forrest Gump was such a huge hit in America. Forrest Gump isn't the ordinary black and white history lesson.
