Transcript of SUBTITLING

Subtitling Programs
Here are some programs that are used for subtitling:
Subtitling using Aegisub
Sources
Advantages of Subtitling
1.
Subtitles help
children
to learn their mother languages in an accurate way with less spelling mistakes, help
immigrants
to learn the language of their new country faster and help
elderly
to keep up their language.
Disadvantages of subtitling
1.
Subtitles
distract
the viewers'
attention
which make them miss some details of the video.
Subtitling
Subtitling
is summarizing of the original text to be written as subtitles which appear as lines
in

the bottom
of the video. They
appear and disappear
according to the voices that exist in the video itself, which make the audience enjoy watching even if it is not in their native languages.
SUBTITLING
Here is an
example
of a subtitling children's story that for sure will help them to learn new vocabulary and decrease their spelling mistakes as well.
1.
Bartho Kriek. “Bartho Kriek on subtitling.” Youtube. N.P., 28 March 2013. Web. 27 March 2014.
2.
Subtitles can be a great help for
deaf and dumb
people who need to pay more attention on, even if they can't speak or listen at least they will be able to read and understand what is the matter through subtitles.
3.
Subtitles
entertain
people and especially who feel bored almost all the time.
4.
Subtitles can be a
financial source
by subtitling movies, dramas and others then sell them on the internet.
2.
Subtitles
take a part
of the original video especially if they are in
black boxes
.
3.
Subtitles sometime do
not match
what is originally in the video, so if you want to learn an exact word in other languages, it would be a little bit hard to figure it out.

I have tried subtitling for a year. It was so much fun and I have learned many things. First, I have gained an experience in this field. Second, my English got better than I expected. Third, my vocabulary list have extended. Last, my translation skills have improved.
I tried subtitling dramas, programs, songs, etc. The hardest one was the dramas, because of the number of lines that need to be subbed. Sometimes, they will reach a thousand lines. I have usually spending a whole day or more just to subtitle one episode. For timing thing, it is the most boring and tiring thing I have ever tried. You will just repeat your steps again and again like no ending. Even thought it was a tiring thing, but the result was always satisfying.
To compress the translation file with the raw video which has to be an avi file, I personally use
AVI Recomp
. It is easy to use.
Here you go,
one
of my works in subtitling.
