The Creation Of The North West Moundted Police

The reason

People all round North-West had been complained about illegal

whisky traders in the area. But there was no police to do anything about that. Parliament

decided to form the North-West

Mounted Police.

This is jerry pots

The first comissiner for the North West Mounted Police was Colonel French. Colenel French wanted to make sure that his new force was well trained, he trained just outside Fort Garry. Jerry Pots was one of the true chracters that put the (NWMP) together he was also meties, he was originaly a guide and interpreter in 1874. Jerry pots was called knower of the praries due to him being coverd in scars due to former battles, Pots was known as someone who used as few words as possible. Jerry Pots was sadly killed and he was burried at Fort Macleod.

Macleod was another big part of the (NWMP). Macleod was trained as a police officer aswell as a lawyer, he always encouraged the (NWMP) to keep the prisoners alive no matter what. If a prisoner was brought back dead it would be 3 months of hard labour in a cell. Colonel Macleod gave the (NWMP) an early reputation for justice.

Superintendant sam steele is one of the legendarys in the (NWMP). He joined the force when he was 19, whenever the (NWMP) are talked around sam steele is always in mind. He was there for the great rebelion in 1885, and the candian pacific railway in 1887. After he sucessfuly defused a bomb a little city was named after him called Fort Steele. 1890s Steele left to join the navy where he fought over seas in WW1

Colonel French made a plan and on July 8 1874 it was put to motion. The Great March. He wanted enveryone of the Territories to know that the Mounted have arrived. It was a long patrol.

an Aboriginal man came into Fort Macleod. to tell him the traders gave a jug of whisky for two horuse. They set out and caught and rounded up traders to be find for a lot of money.

The North West Mounted Police heled ensure the growth and expansion of Western Canada by settlers by providing law and order. This included protecting farmers and ranchers, allowing their businesses, particularly the latter, to grow and transform the economy of a united Canada. The police also helped to protect the building of the transcontinental railway across Canada, another boon in the economic development and population expansion of Canada.
