By: Paula, Valeria, Allie Lyrics Absurdism Comparison with The Stranger Music Transport, motorways and tramlines,
Starting and then stopping,
Taking off and landing,
The emptiest of feelings,
Disappointed people, clinging on to bottles,
And when it comes it's so, so, disappointing.

Let down and hanging around,
Crushed like a bug in the ground.
Let down and hanging around.
The Stranger: “To stay or to go, it amounted to the same thing” (56).

Let Down: “Starting and then stopping” "Let Down"
by Radiohead necessary?
why get emotional? Lyrics: "One day I am gonna to grow wings
A chemical reaction
Hysterical and useless" absurd
useless "The notion of the absurd contains the idea that there is no meaning to be found in the world beyond what meaning we give to it"
encompasses the amortality or "unfairness" of the world
-From Handout To start or to stop shooting, it all meant the same thing since nothing really matters, but nothing doesn't matter; it just is. The Stranger: “…from that day on, I felt that I was at home in my cell and that my life was coming to a standstill there” (72).

Let Down: “Crushed like a bug in the ground” Lyrics: "Don't get sentimental
It always ends up drivel" Meursault is describing his feelings about being in prison; no freedom but was rather guided by society. -Meaning is subjective
personal beliefs and interpretations
-based in perspective Example:
killing someone

-society gives everything meaning, but if an individual doesn't follow the same meaning, then everything is ineffective and absurd. The different volumes and tempos enhance the message of being crushed by society and trying to gain acceptance from society is absurd, useless, and disappointing. Beginning: Volume is very quiet while the tempo is slow because the music is setting a scene. Middle: The singer whispers "let down" with different guitar and drum notes. End: The song comes to a strong finish with loud music and fast tempo to finalize the message. What might the lyrics mean? Chorus:
Singer feels let down by society.
He feels like his way of being or beliefs is being put down. Verse #1:
He's listing methods of transportation.
Singer sings that he feels empty once gets from one point to the next.
He sees disappointed people drinking that only ends up with further disappointment. Verse #2:
The bug (from Chorus) is dead and singer is describing how it looks.
He can't get sentimental because it's nonsense and the result is more disappointment.
Singer wants to grow wings so he doesn't get overemotional and becoming useless or feeling useless. Verse 3:
He describes his world collapsing.
Repeats about wings so he can fly away. "Let Down" relates to many topics we have been discussing in class Are there any questions or comments? Thank you for your attention! Shell smashed, juices flowing
Wings twitch, legs are going,
Don't get sentimental, it always ends up drivel.
One day, I am gonna grow wings,
A chemical reaction,
Hysterical and useless
Hysterical and

Let down and hanging around,
Crushed like a bug in the ground.
Let down and hanging around.

Let down,
Let down,
Let down.

You know, you know where you are with,
You know where you are with,
Floor collapsing, falling, bouncing back
And one day, I am gonna grow wings,
A chemical reaction, (You know where you are)
Hysterical and useless (You know where you are)
Hysterical and (You know where you are)
