Under Assault by Anxiety Is Anxiety Stealing Your Joy? Philippians 4:6 Understanding Sinful Care Combating Sinful Care Are we supposed to never care? What is righteous care? What is sinful care? How will I know which one it is? Philippians 2:20
“For I have no man likeminded, who will naturally care for your state.” Philippians 4:6a
"Be careful for nothing. . ." 2 Corinthians 11:28

“Beside those things that are without, that which cometh upon me daily, the care of all the churches.” 1 Corinthians 12:25-26

“25 That there should be no schism in the body; but that the members should have the same care one for another. 26 And whether one member suffer, all the members suffer with it; or one member be honoured, all the members rejoice with it.” Appropriate care is care for the glory of God and the interests of Christ. Matthew 6:30-32

“30 Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith? 31 Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? 32 (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.” Sinful care is anxiety for anything other than the interests of God. It is inherently selfish. Excessive Care Sinful fruit Results in misery Lack of trust in God What is driving sinful care? Pride Distance from God 1 Peter 5:6-7

“6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: 7 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.” The Pride of Worry The Idolatry of Worry Habakkuk 2:18-20

“18 What profiteth the graven image that the maker thereof hath graven it; the molten image, and a teacher of lies, that the maker of his work trusteth therein, to make dumb idols? 19 Woe unto him that saith to the wood, Awake; to the dumb stone, Arise, it shall teach! Behold, it is laid over with gold and silver, and there is no breath at all in the midst of it. But the LORD is in his holy temple: let all the earth keep silence before him.” "Casting all your cares" " . . .with prayer and supplication . . ." His glory surrounds us to show us His nearness Psalm 19:1 “The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.” His Word communicates to us to show us His nearness Psalm 19:7-8 “7 The law of the LORD is perfect, reviving the soul; the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple; 8 the precepts of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes” The Incarnation communicates His nearness John 1:14 “And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.” The ongoing work of Christ communicates His nearness Hebrews 4:14-16 “14 Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. 15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. 16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.” The Indwelling Holy Spirit communicates His nearness John 14:26-27 “26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. 27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”
