Why we need Friendships
The type of friendship that Martha and Scott had was an opposite-gender best friends relationship.
Friendship is important important in the novel because both Martha and Scott were just right for each other. They were both in different situations and needed someone to talk to about their problems. Martha was forced into a religion she didn't agree with, beaten by her dad and teased everyday because of her clothes, hair and lifestyle that she had. Scott was the new kid in town who didn't know anyone. He was moved away from his original Friends.
Friendship is a relationship between two or more people who hold mutual affection for each other. We should always try to have lots of friendships. Friendships can be created anywhere and everywhere walking home, at school, coffee shops etc.
Things that you should look for in a friend are loyalty, truthfulness, tolerance and kindness.
Friends are always there for us, to laugh with us in happy times and provide us with a shoulder when we feel like crying. They serve as one of the biggest supports in our life.
Friends are amongst those few people who accept us as who we are. Good friends never come into our life expecting us to change for them, however they do correct us when we are at fault. It's said that whenever you need to hear the bitter truth about yourself go to your best friend. You can always count on your friends. After family, friends are the ones who care for you. They bring a smile on your face when you are sad.
