The Ku Klux Klan
Transcript of The Ku Klux Klan
The Ku Klux Klan is a Right-wing extremist organization, that aims at protesting issues such as the civil rights movement, and immigration laws. The Ku Klux Klan traditionally dresses in white robes, and and tops it with a conical hat.
Demise of the 1st Klan
In 1870, a court deemed the Klan a terrorist organization (Encyclopedia). thousands of members were dug out of hiding and persecuted for their crimes. Lack of communication in between sects led to the crumbling of the organization from within. the Klan would not re arise until 1915
William Simmons founded the 2nd Klan in 1915 after the film The Birth of a Nation was released. The film glorified the Klan, and popularity spread throughout the nation. the organizations demographic was centered around middle or lower class white males. the main enviroment for the KKK shifted into urban areas, contrasting the 1st klan, which was in the rural South.
The Third Klan
While I agree that the KKK still maintains a powerful hate speech element, I preserve the opinion that they no longer maintain a powerful entity in todays society. The media has held steady to the act of minimizing the KKK's power by limiting the exposure of their actions, thus degenerating the recruiting potential for the Klan to find like-minded individuals.
The 1st Klan
The 1st Klan was established in 1866 by a confederate soldier named Nathan Bedford Forrest (history.com). Forrest fought violently against Republican soldiers reinforcing Reconstruction in the South. Forrest also led the Klan to commit an innumerable amount of violent crimes against African Americans.
Then Vs. Now
While the first Klan was perceived in a positive way and reflected the ideals of southern society, the Ku Klux Klan no longer retains that title. Todays KKK aligns tightly with the movement of Neo-Nazis, and is strictly frowned upon in society
The Ku Klux Klan
Then Vs. Now. How Much Has It Changed?
The Third Klan was an assembly Of small, locally ran groups that opposed civil rights for many of Americas Citizens. The KKK now received national attention due to increase in communications technology, and has been able to stay afloat until present day, where they now live with the pseudo-official title as a "terrorist organization"
