Written By: Sarah Dessen Along for the Ride Book Review Plot Description Main Character Favorite Passage Setting About The Author Brochure By: Alissa Cousineau My Book, Along for the Ride, is realistic fiction. The reason it is realistic fiction is because the things that happen in it can actually happen in real life but they do not. For example, the main character works at her step-moms boutique, studies for college, babysits her step-sister, and hangs out with her friends. Those are all things that real people can do in real life.
This book reminds me of the movie or book The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. It reminds me of that because the main character moves away for the summer from all of her friends. Although she is away from them, like the The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, she meets new ones and still has a lot of fun.
I loved this book. Some of the reasons I liked it so much was because I love the genre realistic fiction, the main character was very interesting, and for me there was never a boring part in it.
I think that all girls should read this book. If you like books about friends, summer, and having fun, I recommend Along for the Ride to you. Auden Moves From her mom’s house to her dad’s house on the beach for the summer before she goes away to college. She is planning on having another summer full of learning and reading books like every other one. That is not how her summer turns out to be.
Auden seems to have a pretty good summer. She gets a job at her step-moms boutique. She meets some new friends that also live there. A couple of shops down from it is a bike shop where she meets a guy named Eli. She starts to spend a lot of time with him. She is with him all night from 10:00p.m until about 4:00a.m. After awhile they start to date. While they are dating they get into a huge fight and there are only a few days left in the summer. Will they get back together and will Auden have a good summer before she has to go to college? Read the book and find out! The main character in Along for the Ride is named Auden. She is a very smart and nice teenager. She doesn’t like to be very girly. She wears dark and boring clothes and her hair is dark and long, like her mom’s.
Auden hasn’t ever had a lot of good friends. Since she is so smart, she goes to very good private schools and everyone there focuses on their school work rather than their friends. The friends that she does nave though, she doesn't like to hang out with because she likes to stay home more than to go out. She hasn’t ever had a boyfriend either. The only guy she’d ever liked, asked her to prom, and then cancelled on her at the last minute. There are three main places where the story takes place. They are Auden’s house, her dad’s house, and her stepmom’s boutique. The place where she spends most of her time in the book are the boutique or her dad’s house. At the boutique, Clementine’s, she is usually doing payroll and at her dad’s house she usually sleeps and drinks a lot of coffee. The story is in the present time. Hey Auden!!
I hope you’re having a great last few weeks of classes. We are all good here! Just finishing things up before your sister-to-be arrives. She’s been kicking like crazy lately. Its like she’s doing karate moves in there! I’ve been busy minding the store (so to speak) and putting the final touches on the nursery. I’ve done it all in pink and brown; its gorgeous. I’ll attach a picture so you can see it.
Your dad has been busy as always, working on his book. I figure I’ll see more of him burning the midnight oil when I’m up with the baby!
I really hope you’ll consider visiting us once you’re done with school. It would be so much fun, and that much more special for all of us. Just come anytime. We’d love to see you!

Love,
Heidi (and your dad, and the baby-to-be!)

I picked this letter written to Auden From her step-mom because it sums up a lot about what happens during the summer when she goes there. Because it was so close to the beginning of the story, it really made me not want to put the book down and see if Auden went to visit! The author of this book, Sarah Dessen, is from Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Other books that she has written are What Happened to Goodbye, Lock and Key, Just Listen, The Truth About Forever, This Lullaby, Dreamland, Keeping the Moon, Someone Like You, and That Summer I read 416 of 416 pages of this book Pictures www.modernmom.com www.dotnewslive.com www.homeofficedesignblog.com
