From school improvement to sustained capacity
COSMIC C-B Model
Organisational diagnosis and coherence
Facilitate a shared understanding within the school community of the degree of alignment (or misalignment) of the school’s key organisational elements.
Seeking new heights
Develop an image of the future that is both inspirational and optimistic. This image manifests primarily in two interrelated forms — a motivational vision statement and a transformative schoolwide pedagogical framework (SWP).
Micro-pedagogical deepening
Engage teachers in forms of professional inquiry that will enhance schoolwide pedagogical practice. Professional inquiry for micro-pedagogical deepening incorporates
three strategies:
reflection on personal gifts and talents,
conceptual exploration of the school’s pedagogical principles, and
development of classroom strategies relating to the SWP principles.
Invoking reaction
Disseminate and refine significant new school-based knowledge (organisational and pedagogical) through networking.
Consolidating success
Identify core processes that have contributed to enhanced school outcomes.
Embed these processes into the ongoing work of the school.
Incorporate organisation, cultural, and professional learning strategies.
Committing to school revitalisation
Make a firm decision to undertake school improvement (or revitalisation) as an
immediate leadership priority.
