How The Chinese New Year Started...
Long ago,A beast named Nian attacked China.The people later learned that the beast was afraid of the color red,fireworks,and lights.It is said that "the beast only attacked once a year".That day is now called the Chinese New Years or in China they will say "Gung Hee Fat Choy".This year in January 31,2014 marks the year of the horse.The Chinese New Year will start with a new moon and end on a full moon.
The Candy Tray
The candy tray is either arranged in a circle or octagon called,"The Tray Of Togetherness".The candy tray is used to start the New Year sweetly. After eating some candy off the tray,The adults put a red envelope in the center of the tray.In the envelope may contain gifts,money,etc.The box below displays what is on the candy tray.
Celebrating The Chinese New Year .
The 15th Day Celebration Of The Chinese New Year.
On the 1st day of celebration it is said to be,"The welcoming of the gods of the heavens and earth".On the 2nd day of celebration, The chinese people pray to their ancestors as well as the gods.On the 3rd and 4th day of celebration, The sons in laws pay respect to their parents in law.On the 5th day of celebration, No friends and families are allowed to visit each other because it will bring their parties bad luck.On the 6th day of celebration, the chinese visit the temples to pray for good fortune and health.On the 7th day of celebration it is considered the birthday of human beings.On the 8th day of celebration,The Fujian people have a family reunion dinner.On the 9th day of celebration,The chinese make greetings to the Jade Emperor.On the 10th through the 12th day of celebration,It is when friends and families are invited to dinners.Then,On the 13th day of celebration since they already ate on the 10th through the 12th they just eat simple rice congee,etc.On the 14th day of celebration,They prepare for the Lantern Festival which is held on the 15th day.
Chinese New Year Decorations
On New Years day,The chinese decorate with vases of pretty blossoms ,platters of oranges and tangerines,etc.New decorations are put up every year and are kept up throughout the year to welcome luck,health,and prosperity.The chinese New Year decorations take weeks and weeks to put together.The plants are used to symbolize rebirth and new growth.The tangerines are used to make sure that ones relationships are remained secured.It is said that "The oranges and tangerines are symbols of abundant happiness".
* Candied melon - growth and good health

* Red melon seed - dyed red to symbolize joy,happiness, truth and sincerity

* Lychee nut - strong family relationships

* Cumquat - prosperity (gold)

* Coconut - togetherness

* Peanuts - long life

* Longnan - many good sons

* Lotus seed - many children
Chinese New Year Clothing
Every member of the family wears new clothes to start the brand New Year off .Any accessories must be new if they are worn on New Years.The clothing mainly features the color red because it is believed that it will scare evil spirits away.The chinese people typically wear the new clothes to symbolize the brand new year.It states that "Wearing new clothes means that you have enough to use and wear in the New Year".

Chinese New Year Fireworks
The chinese people use fireworks to scare away evil spirits.The fireworks get launched right after 12:00pm to celebrate the New Year.The person who fires the firework is said to have good luck in the new year.The burning of the firecrackers also signifies a joyful time of the Chinese New Year celebrations.Friends and families gather together to see this spectacular moment of their lives.

Chinese New Year Red Envelope
These red packets are given from adults to childern,especially married couples.They are traditionally passed out during the Chinese New Year celebration.Inside the packets contain money, messages,etc.It was believed that money from the red packets will suppress the evil spirits from the childern.Red envelopes are kept under their pillows and slept on for seven days before opening.
How The Chinese New Year Ends
The chinese celebration ends with the Lantern Festival.The Lantern Festival begins on February 14,2014.The childern go out at night to temples carrying paper lanterns and solving riddles.The chinese celebration is a great way to come together as friends and families party and eat all day long.The chinese people can't wait for the next New Year,which begins on February 19,2015.
