Early Life
Theodore "Ted" Bundy was born November 24, 1946, in Burlington, Vermont.

He was a shame upon his mother, Louise Cowell who was 22 , unmarried and had a very religious family. He was born in a home for unwed mothers

He was raised as the adopted son of his grandparents and they told him his mother was his sister

Lpuise moved to Tacoma , Washington with Ted and in 1951 married John Bundy , who she had many children with. He grew up in a normal working- class family.

Ted showed an interest in knives when he was only three years old.

Academically , he did very well but he had weak social skills
Ted Bundy as a young adult..
As Ted became a teenager his behavior became more alarming.

He liked to peek into peoples windows and did not care if he stole things that he wanted.

He attended the University of Washington aspiring to enter politics where he met his girlfriend Stephanie Brooks. She was wealthy, attractive and he was obsessed with her.

When she broke things off he was devastated and many of his later victims were pretty brunettes with long hair like Stephanie Brooks.

At this time he found out about his true parents which was very difficult. He wanted to rise above his troubled past and he became a dedicated student and campaigner for the Republican party.
Ted meets someone new:
Around that time he began a relationship with Meg Anders , a divorcee with a young daughter that would last five years, but he was still obsessed with Stephanie Brooks

In 1973, Ted met Stephanie again and she was amazed at how successful Ted had become. While dating Meg Anders , Ted also dated Stephanie with either of them knowing.

Ted Bundy became very politically active and charismatic , he was planning to enter law school in Utah . Stephanie began to think about marrying Ted Bundy but he randomly cut off all contact with her the same way she had to him six years earlier. This revenge wasn't enough for Ted Bundy and women with Stephanie Brooks physical characteristics began to dissapear in the Oregon , Seattle region....
The crimes begin...
It is hard to determine the amount of crimes that Ted Bundy actual committed. He is guilty for 36 crimes but the death toll is believed to be much higher.
January 4th , 1974- Joni Lenz was perhaps the first victim and one of the few women to survive. However her rape was physically and psychologically traumatic.
January 31st , 1974 - Lynda Ann Healy a law student was a victim of Bundy but she was killed. Her disappearance did not alarm the police but when other women with the same profile started to disappear(Janice Ott and Denise Naslund, July1974) the police began to believe there was a serial killer on the loose.

A new location:
Bundy moved to Utah in the fall of 1974 for law school and soon after women in the Utah , Colorado area began disappearing

The following year, he was pulled over by the police. Police officers searched his car and found an assortment of burglary tools—a crowbar, a face mask, rope and handcuffs.

He was arrested for having these tools and the police began to link him to worse crimes.
1975- Bundy was arrested in the kidnapping of Carol DaRonch, who escaped. He was convicted and received up to a 15 year sentence .

1977- Bundy was indicted on murder charges for the death of his presumed 14th victim , Caryn Campbell. He decided to defend himself with no lawyer . During a trip to the courthouse library, Bundy escaped but was caught 8 days later.

Bundys final crimes :
December 1977- Bundy escaped from custody again. He climbed out of a hole he made in the ceiling of his cell . The Police didnt know Bundy was missing for 15 hours, giving him a big headstart. He made his way towards Tallahassee, Florida.

January 14, 1978- Bundy broke into the Chi Omega sorority house at Florida State University. He attacked four women , killing two of them, Lisa Levy and Margaret Bowman .

February 9, 1978 -Bundy lured a twelve-year-old girl named Kimberly Leach from her school to his hotel room then drowned and sexually assaulted her. It is believed that this was his last crime as he was pulled over by the police that month.

July 1979- Bundy was convicted and given the death penalty for the two Chi Omega murders. The bite marks on one of the bodies was a match for Bundy . Bundy received another death sentence for the murder of Kimberly Leach.

His last years in prison :
Bundy spent 11 years appealing his death sentence. He became a highly publicized national figure since his Florida trials. Actor Mark Harmon played Bundy in the 1986 television movie The Deliberate Stranger.

Bundy tried to appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court, but was turned down. He went as far as to offer information about unsolved murders to avoid the electric chair, but he was turned down again.

January 24, 1989- Bundy was executed at 7a.m. by electric chair at the Florida State Prison. Outside the prison, crowds cheered at his death and even set off fireworks. He admitted to 36 killings but most believe it was much more.
Ted Bundy was not someone who appeared to be a serial killer and was actually very intelligent and charming. He had many methods in order to kill his victims :
Fake Injury: He often would fake an injury and ask for help in order to lure women. He killed a Colorado ski instructor by pretending to be injured and asking her to help him carry his ski boots to his car.

Personality and Appearance : He was intelligent , decent looking and had a very charismatic personality. No one would have suspected that he would be a serial killer.

Impersonation: He would often impersonate police officers or firefighters in order to get victims to do what we wanted
Ted Bundys Beetle:

Ted Bundy often lured his victims into his 1968 beige Volkswagen Beetle and he took out the back seats to make space for the bodies of his victims. The Beetle is now on display in the National Museum of Crime and Punishment in Washington, D.C.
Victims and Body Count :
Most victims were attractive, young, brunettes that looked like his college girlfriend Stephanie Brooks. He blamed his crimes on pornography. He confessed to killing 36 women but experts say it could actually reach near 100..
How Ted Bundy killed his victims:
Ted Bundy would usually hit his victims over the head with a crowbar
and bludgeon them with it. At the sorority house in Florida State University
he used a piece of wood to break in and hit his victims with. After knocking them out he would usually sexually assault his victims

A serial killer is not the same as a mass murderer

What Exactly is a Serial Killer?

Mass Murderer: Multiple Victims
Victims wrong place / time
Usually single crime scene
Single Episode
No specific methodology involved

Serial Killer: Multiple Victims
Victims carefully selected
Several crime scenes
Several episodes
Very specific methodology

These are the differences between a mass murderer and a serial killer.

Remained socially distant
Didn’t have very many friends
First girlfriend: Stephanie Brooks (pseudonym)
Personal immaturity
Lack of ambition
Second girlfriend: Elizabeth Kloepfer
Dated for six years
Began a relationship with Stephanie while dating Elizabeth
Neither knew about the other at the time
Both women had straight hair which they parted in the middle
Similar to a substantial majority of his future victims

University years

Fake a broken arm or leg
Lure unsuspecting woman to car to help load books
Knock her out with a crowbar
Drag her into the car, unconscious
Handcuff her
Take her to “location”
Rape/sexual assault
Strangle her to death

Was this killing of innocent young women is created by nature or nurture?

The question is

As a child Ted Bundy did not have any close attachment

Was he damaged as a child by the lie that his mother was his sister?

Was his later rejection by is dream girl the catch to his crimes?

Or was Ted Bundy simply born to kill?

We will leave with this question in mind to watch the last interview with
Ted Bundy regarding this issue.
