Starbucks
Starbucks has made an impact on Washington state by contributing to the economy and helping the environment along with cultural and social views in many personal beliefs and opinion.
The company was named after Captain Ahab's first mate Starbuck. From one of the founders favorite books, Moby Dick.
Starbucks was first founded by teachers, a History teacher named Zev Siegl, an English teacher Jerry Baldwin and writer Gordon Bowker. The three of them shared the same dream to sell high end delicious tasting coffee.
Mainly because, in 1984, the original owners of Starbucks, sold the chain to former employee Howard Schultz, due to the 1980s, total sales of coffee in the US were falling, but sales of specialty coffee increased, because they only sold espresso coffee and Howard had experience in selling specialty coffee.
Starbucks as we know it is run by Howard Schultz. He became the CEO of Starbucks by buying the company from the original founders.

Since Howard Schultz has been active CEO he has has established polices for the company that benefit the state of Washington by contributing to the economy and environment.
Contributing to Washington states environment!
We all love our state because of its beautiful nature right! Well so does Starbucks! They have dedicated more of their time in the company to Washington's education on going green. Not only does that help our environment, it teaches people to be more aware of how much trash we use and whats bad for the earth and what can the earths nature use over again.
Grounds for your Garden
Starbucks stared a campaign called grounds for your garden in order to reduce waste, at any Starbucks location you can walk in and ask for their used coffee grounds, and they will give you 5lbs minimum completely free for your garden.
Starbucks and recycling in WA communities!
In order to help improve local recycling infrastructures, Starbucks is working on implementing front-of-store recycling in all of its company-owned locations, starting first local here in Washington.

Helping WA economics
Starbucks as a company its self has been booming. But what are ways that it helps Washington? Well many of us being locals are aware of pike place market, but tourist love the big attractions like the gum wall and the fist Starbucks shop. Yes that's them getting money form customers, but what about all the people that come visit to see the shop and all the money they spend here on, hotels, the market, all the normal travel expenses.
Helping the economy
By making contributions to their staff in the form of bonuses based on their performance in school, Starbucks contributes to the economy by encouraging their employees, and building a better more educated workforce for the state's future. With educational funds being expensive, they are also contributing to funding schools in this way.
The Starbucks Foundation gave $13.1 million in 2014, making 144 grants to nonprofit organizations. Grants included $3.37 million for Starbucks Youth Leadership Grants and $4.2 million in social development grants.
The Starbucks Foundation believes in providing young people, ages 15 to 24 years old, with pathways to opportunity by investing in programs that equip young people with the skills required for the changing global economy.

Starbucks support in society
In January 2012, a Starbucks executive stated it supports the legalization of same-sex marriage. This resulted in a boycott by the National Organization for Marriage, a political organization that opposes same-sex marriage. In supporting this, it has made a great impact just like other businesses have and now Washington state is now supports same sex marriage.

fun facts:
In 1993 the coffee roasting plant opened in Kent Washington
Starbucks has more than 160 drinks on their menu they also have a secret menu
The secret Starbucks cup size is the short- 8oz
The original company logo
was a wood style, two- tailed mermaid many people have controversy over it, many saying it is not appropriate

So when Starbucks first opened by the founders they didn't sell coffee drinks, just beans
Seattle is the eighth city in the world to have the most Starbucks shops- 142 and counting
Because of that after conquering Seattle the chain across the United States grew the first stores besides Seattle were in Vancouver and Chicago,
Gordon, Jerry and Zev got the idea from their friend Alfred Peet (founder of Peet's Coffee)
When they first started the company they bought their coffee beans from Alfred
Starbucks later than took over places
