Lay hold on the word of God
Mormon 7:8 Lay hold upon the gospel of Christ, which shall be set before you.
Use the word of God as a lens by which you seek to see and understand truths in all fields of study.
The word of God is our foundation, we should be using it to help us in our everyday lives and apply it wherever necessary.
What I love about BYU-Idaho is the ability we have to apply scripture, and gospel principles to every subject or area of study. No matter what major, no matter what class, starting with a prayer and inviting the Spirit is what allows for our amazing education.
Act for themselves
2 Nephi 2:14,16 God...created all things...both things to act and things to be acted upon. God gave unto man that he should act for himself.
Teachers and learners at BYU-Idaho are asked to use their agency and take responsibility for their actions.
Plagiarism case study (tell story)
Teachers should take responsibility for the learning that happens in their own classroom. How can you teach students unless you prepare?
PREPARE, PREPARE, PREPARE- teachers and students.
Give me an example of a time you saw this demonstrated in one of your classes?
Love, Serve, Teach one another.
Matt. 22:36-40 Master, which is the great commandment in the law? Jesus said unto him,Thou shall love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.
This principle goes along with the second step of the learning model which is teach one another.
By teaching someone else you are proving service and showing your love to them, just as the savior would do.
As a teacher we should create an environment where people think about others before themselves.
Name a time when you applied this principle in the classroom. Was it successful? Why or Why not?
What is the learning Model?
Created to deepen learning experiences.
The Learning Model is a strategy put in place to help students take greater responsibility for their own learning and to teach their fellow classmates.

Exercise Faith
2 Nephi 9:29 To be learned is good if they hearken unto the councils of God.
The Prophet Joseph Smith taught that “faith is not only the principle of action, but of power also, in all intelligent beings."
The power we access through faith in the Savior allows us to exceed our natural limits and learn beyond our natural capabilities.
Without faith, we have nothing. It is the foundation of all we know.
How can we exercise faith on a daily basis?
Learn By the Holy Ghost
As we keep the commandments of God we will receive the inspiration and guidance of the Holy Ghost in all our learning and teaching
Moroni 10:5 and by the power of the Holy Ghost ye may know the truth of all things.
Learning and teaching by the Holy Ghost is by far the most effective way to gain and pass on knowledge
The Holy Ghost provides people with insights we would never be able to able to as human beings.
Invite the spirit through prayer.
Does anyone have an example they would like to share?
SIDE A
SIDE B
We need these principles because...
They will help us grow as members of the church
We can use them in every aspect of our live
They have been proven to work
