Famous Landmarks In Europe Belgium Atomium The Atomium At Night. Atomium in the day The Atomium was built in 1958. It was originaly bulit out of aluminium. When it was renovated in March of 2004 the aluminium is now made of stainless steel. The old aluminium was sold. One piece sold for 1,000 Euros which is 1,330 American dollars. The atomium was originaly only going to stay up for 6 months. You can go in the atomium. normal lit up. U.K. Tower Of London Throughout its long history, the Tower has served as a royal palace and fortress, prison and place of execution, an arsenal, royal mint, menagerie and jewel house. Westminster Abbey Westminster Abbey is one of the oldest buildings in London. It is one of the most important religious centres in the country. Many kings, queens, and famous people are buried or commemorated there. Its founder, Edward the Confessor, was made a saint after his death and he is buried in a special chapel dedicated to him. Big Ben Big Ben is a very big clock tower in London. It is one of the most well known landmarks in the world. The entire clock tower is not actually Big Ben it is the 13 ton bell inside the tower. 9 feet wide and 7 feet 6 inches across. The O2 - Millenium Dome The 02 is the worlds largest dome in the world. It covers over 180 acres. It is 50 meters in height and has 100 meter supports and Completed in 1999. the 02 dome at night. The awsomest band from sweden ever Grand Place Flowers Every two years in August a flower carpet is set up in the Grand Place for a few days. The display cover 79 by 253 feet. Ireland Dublin castle Originaly the Dublin Castle was a defensive fortification. The Lord Lieutenant of Ireland or Viceroy of Ireland, was the representative of the monarchy who lived there. Over the years parliament and law courts met at there before moving the castle to a new purpose. hi The End Stonehenge Stonehenge is a circle of stones that no one knows why it was made or how it was made. It was made between 3100 1100 B.C. It was made out of blue stone that weighs as much as 4 tons and was located 240 miles away. the other one was sarsen stones which can be up to 8 ft. tall and can weigh 25 tons. they think that it took more than 30 million hours. There is more than 900 stone circles in the british isles but Stonehenge is that mostt well known. they belive that druids had nothing to do with building it but they did their rituals. Dublin spire it is made of stainless steel. it is 398 feet tall. it is located on the site of the former Nelson's Pillar on O'Connell Street in Dublin. it was made from 2002-2003. it costed 6,416,800 US Dollars.
