Using Sweatshops in Asia A sweat shop is a working environment that is dangerous and difficult to work in.
Employees are often forced to work long hours, abused, harassed, and given very little pay What is a Sweatshop? Conditions at Adidas Factories Adidas has acknowledged the reports and promised to ensure that suppliers provide good conditions for their staff to work in.
Training has been provided to the supervisors and employees in Adidas factories.
Olympic organizers have also worked with Adidas to investigate the claims made on Adidas's factories in Asia.
Training has been provided on new instructional methods for supervisors. Nike Sweatshops Nike has made China its main country of choice for sweatshops, moving 40% of it's workers there.
Typical Nike employees are worse of then workers for normal apparel companies
Nike workers in China get paid $1.50 at most for every pair of shoes they make. These shoes sell for around $80 to $120.
Nike could afford to triple the wages for it's employees in China
Nike has bragged about raising wages in it's Indonesian factories when really the wages have gone down due to a financial crises in Asia Conditions at Nike Factories Recent surveys of workers in a Indonesian factory have discovered that an average of 60% of workers have experienced abuse in the work place one way or another.
This abuse includes but is not limited to wage deductions, ear pulling, pinching or slapping, being forced to run around the factory, or having to stand for hours in factory yards.
Nike's code of conduct requires workers to work no more then 60 hours week however employees report that they have been forced to work more then 72 hours.
Employees work 12 hour days, 7 days a week.
Most workers live within the factory grounds and are forced to share a room with 8 to 12 people
In one factory 36 women are forced to share 3 toilets
The common wage is 16-19 cents and hour What Nike is doing to reduce sweatshop tactics in its factories The factories established policies and procedures in which foreign workers must get a work permit.Created a procedure which workers can use to join or withdraw from the trade union.A new policy was created which protects personal equipment.A noise meter has been put in place with a Vietnamese translation of the instructions.Hearing tests are provided for workers in noisy areas by doctors associated with the Department of Health, Medical, and Environment. They have established sweatshops in Cambodia, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia and China.
Nike and Adidas employ people of lower social statues in these sweatshop factories because these people will accept any source of income.
Employees fear getting fired from these low paying jobs because it is their only source of income for there families
Mostly women worked in these factories Adidas's sweatshops in Asia have been exposed by multiple trade unions.
Indonesian factory workers labor intensely to make garments for very low wages.
The wages are so low, they are labeled as "unethical" by some newspaper services.
Workers-rights advocates say that factory owners should pay their employees more than just 55 cents an hour.
A typical Indonesian is not able to support his or her family without working 65 hours a week.

Women workers are threaten with being fired if they don't have sex with their supervisors
Workers attempting to form unions or refusing to work overtime are fired or harassed
Employees are forced to work in dark, cramped, and poorly ventilated factories Why do major footwear companies
use sweatshops? Most sweat shops are located in developing third world countries or places with low economical status.
Major corporations establish sweatshops in these locations so that they can pay workers less money.
Workers do not complain because their standard of living is often lower then what these major corporations are offering them.
Through this major corporations benefit by exploiting workers rights to achieve high profits and low production cost.
