Transcript of Major Types of Conflict

By: Kira Larsen Internal Conflict: External There are 2 categories of conflict. "But that stinking mirror doesn't lie. Every time I walk by, it shouts, Hey. Chub. When are you going to lose those fifteen pounds of ugly-ass flab? Do you want to stay size four forever? ... But calories won't conquer me. They are the one thing I can control." (Hopkins, 23). External Conflict: "The only time I can't eat to total contentment is when Daddy's around. No daughter of mine will wear double digit clothes, he said once, and he meant it." (Hopkins, 90). External Conflict: "Once clear of the bay, Cole swam even harder. Misty rain roughed the water as waves washed over his head. When he stopped to rest, his breath came in ragged gasps. His numb limbs felt wooden and stiff, moving awkwardly as if disconnected from his body." (Mikaelsen, 41). External Conflict: "Not exactly true that skin hate is dead. There will never be color blindness in a culture of fear." (Hopkins, 325) What is CONFLICT? There are four major
types of conflict. But first... Conflict is.... a struggle between two opposing forces Without conflict... There is NO story. Internal Which is.... AND Which is.... person vs. self a struggle with a force inside of a character a struggle with a force outside of a character person vs. person person vs. nature person vs. society we NEED to know "Dad staggered in, eyes eerily lit.
The corners of his mouth foaming spit.
His demons planned an overnight stay.
Mom motioned to take the girls away,
hide them in their rooms, safe in their beds.
We closed the doors, covered our heads,
as if the blankets could mute the sounds of his blows
or we could silence her screams beneath our pillows." (Hopkins, 64). think PSYCHOLOGICAL English 10-1 September 25, 2012 :) "Cole felt himself growing dizzy from the cold." (Mikaelsen, 146) "Tell me what's wrong with society
When everywhere I look, I see
Young girls dying to be on TV
They won't stop till they've reached their dreams

Diet pills, surgery
Photoshopped pictures in magazines
Telling them how they should be
It doesn't make sense to me" (Simple Plan). "Oh, Tina’s losing faith in what she knows
Hates her music
Hates all of her clothes
Thinks of surgery
And a new nose
Every calorie is a war
While she wishes she
Was a dancer
And that she'd never
Heard of cancer
She wishes God would give her
Some answers
And make her feel beautiful" (Our Lady Peace).
