Robert L. Heilbroner is worth beliveing beause you can tell he's done his research for this atricle. In this article he uses a pyschologist's study to helpsupport his point. "He secretly asked the most popular youngsters in an elemnetary schoolto make errors in their morning gym excersises. Afterwards he asked the class if anyone had noticed any mistakes during gym period.Oh, yes, said the children. but it was the unpopular memebers of the class--the "bad guys" --they remember as being out of step." This shows Robrt using other soarces to prove his thoughts to be right by doing research.
In the article "Don't let Stereotypes Warp your Judgement", the author uses examples of pathos, one being when he says, " Most of the time when we typecast the world, we are not in fact generalizing about people at all. We are only revealing the embarrassing facts about thr pictures that hang in the gallery of stereotypes in our own heads" (Heilbroner). This is an example of Pathos because his words appeal to the readers emotions by using a disapproving tone, that makes the author sort of feel a sense of shame or chagrin.
Robert L Heilbroner uses various rhetorical appeals to strengthen his essay, and one of them is pathos. His Use of pathos for this example, is that he uses his diction to create imagery for the reader. He says, "Hence it is not surprising that stereotypes have something to do with the dark world of prejudice"(Heilbroner).

In the article, "Don't Let Stereotypes Warp Your Judgmet," Robert L. Heilbroner uses logos in order to make the argument more valid. "... we tend to see people in terms of our standardized pictures. In another demonstration of the power of stereotypes to affect our vision, a number of Columbia and Barnard students were shown 30 photographs of pretty but unidentified girls, and asked to rate each in terms of "general liking," "intelligence," "beauty" and so on. Two months later, the same group were shown the same photographs... Right away the ratings changed. Faces... representing a national group went down in looks... the "American" girls suddenly looked... prettier and nicer." (Heilbroner) The use of logos in this quote identifies that the study portrays to how people have a particular way of seeing people and how it warps our judgment.
Robert L. Heilbroner uses logos to explain the effects of stereotypes on our judgment. " And whereas we all think we know what an Italian or Swede looks like, it is the sad fact that when a group of Nebraska students sought to match faces and nationalities of 15 European countries, they were scored wrong in 93 percent of their identifications." In this quote, Heilbroner expresses the fact that although people seem to know who people are, our judgment gets in the way of visualizing who they really are then from what we think they look like are or who they are to be.
Stereotypes have been known to warp judgement, and Robert L. Heilbroner in his essay, makes his points elegantly. In his essay he says, "Is a girl called Gloria apt to be better looking than one called Bertha"(Heilbroner). This quote appeals to the readers emotions as his opening sentence because it is humourous and is an attention grabber.
Robert L Heilbroner uses logos to strengthen his argument of how stereotypes warp our judgment. "Stereotypes are one way in which we "define" the world in order to see it. They classify the infinite variety of human beings into a convenient handful of "types" towards whom we learn to act in a stereotyped fashion... Stereotypes economize on our mental effort by covering up the blooming and buzzing with big recognizable cutouts."This example explains how stereotypes are used to define the world in an irrational way.
In the article, "Don't let stereotypes warp your judgment," robert L. heilbroner is expressing that stereotrypes warp our judgment by using ethos, logos, and pathos.
The author does a good job at earning audiences trust. "Most of the time, when we typcast the world, we are not in fact generalizing about people at all. We are only revealing the embarrasing facts about the pictures that hang in the gallery of stereotypes in our own heads". By holding himself accountable and applying himself to everyones level when it comes to stereotyping shows he is genuine.
Heilbroner's bakground makes his words somewhat beleivable. "The economist Robert L. Heilbroner was educated at Harvardand at the New School for Social Research, where he has been the Norman. Thomas Professor of Economists since 1972." Therfor his word has reason in it and helps the readers know he's reliable.
Logos is the rhethorical appeal that strengthens Heilbroner's argument in "Don't Let stereotypes warp your judgment. Logos strengthens the argument the most because Heilbroner provides statistics which enchance the author's credibility.
