What is the Oculus Rift?
The developer's kit is for sale for $300
The consumer price will be around $250
What competition does the Oculus Rift have?
Currently the Oculus Rift is the cheapest VR (Virtual Reality) headset available, with other VR headsets selling for thousands of dollars, much more than the average consumer can afford. But Valve, a video game developing company that has developed the biggest PC gaming client, STEAM, has announced that they will be looking to develop their own VR headset.
Who is developing this?
The company Oculus VR was founded by Palmer Luckey and the co-founders of Scaleform. Co-founder of id Software John Carmack was later hired as the Chief Technolody Officer.
Palmer lucky who also goes by PalmerTech online, is the creator of the Oculus Rift.
Release Date?
There is still no release date for the consumer version of the Oculus Rift headset beyond "2014". But it is expected that a date will be announced soon.
Uses for the Oculus Rift?
There have already been driving simulators that have added Oculus Rift support
The main focus for the Oculus Rift is to make video gaming more immersive, to actually feel like you're "in the game"
