Summary
The Watch overhear Borachio boasting to Conraade of his part in Don John's plot.
They arrest them.
Analysis A3 S3
Dogberry and the Watch are introduced both to relieve the tension and heighten the tension on the eve of the wedding.
Their lack of education contrasts with the deviousness of the aristocracy.
Their bufoonery hints at a happy ending.
We do wonder if the truth will come to light before Hero is disgraced.
Analysis A3 S3
Dogberry and Verges are a comic combination.
When Dogberry tries impressing the Watch, his series of malpropisms, use of the wrong word for another similar in sound or sense, makes him ridiculous.
His instructions are nonsense.
Their success in uncovering the plot is by chance rather than by intention.
Analysis A3 S3
The Watch eavesdropping on Borachio and Conrade reminds us of the orchard scenes.
The ironic parrallells help unify the play.
Questions
1) Where does Dogberry order the Watch to take particular care tonight?
2) When Conrade and Borachio come in, do they realise the Watch are there?
3) Who saw Borachio talking to Margaret at Hero's window? Name two people.
