Marco de Canaveses is located in the north of Portugal in one of the Protected Designation of Origin of the famous and sparkling 'vinho verde'. It is strongly influenced by the Aboboreira and Montedeiras mountains and crossed by two of the most important Portuguese rivers, the Douro and Tâmega rivers.

Marco de Canaveses is a city of the Porto district. The municipality is divided into 16 civil parishes.

The population in 2011 was 53,450, in an area of 201.89 km². The city itself had a population of 9,042 in 2001.
Portuguese is spoken as a first language in Portugal by nearly all of the nation's 10.6 million people.
During a period of Portuguese discoveries and through a large colonial empire, the language was spread to areas in Africa, Asia and the Americas by Portugal.

PUBLIC SCHOOL'S ORGANISATION

A School Grouping is an organisational unit with its own administration and management set up vertically, which includes pre-school, 1st, 2nd, 3rd cycle schools and upper secondary education, based on a common teaching plan.











The Direction Board has a headmaster, a second headmaster and 3 teachers’ assistants.

Teachers are organized in Departments: Languages, Maths and Sciences, Social Sciences and Expressions. Teachers work an average of 22 hours teaching time, plus 4 hours for study room, library, extra teaching classes for pupils with learning difficulties and class tutoring. School meetings take place at the end of the school day.

Agrupamento de Escolas de Marco de Canaveses (Marco de Canaveses School Grouping) is located in the north of Portugal, in a semi-rural neighbourhood of about 50.000 inhabitants.

The School Grouping consists of 17 kindergartens, 14 primary schools (10 integradas + 4EB1 + 7 JI = 1443 pupils from 3 to 9) and a head school with primary and lower secondary school for children aged 9-14 (797 pupils). Overall the school has got 2.240 students and 205 teachers.

that work individually with students struggling with emotional, behavioral, and social challenges.

It is also the role of the school social worker and psychologist to work with a student's family to recognize issues that may negatively impact social and academic success.

such as the Eco-Schools, Maths Club, European Club, Sports Club, eTwinning, Youth European Parliament, School Radio, Music/Choir Club. During the school year pupils participate in several
activities
that are part of the School Grouping Annual Activities Plan – Autumn Fair, St. Valentine’s Day, Pancake Day’s Race, Europe Day, School Day, several Maths and Portuguese competitions, etc.
