Jerry Spinelli is best known for writing children books about adolescence and early adulthood. Spinelli was born in Norristown, Pennsylvania and now lives in Wayne, PA. At the age of sixteen he wrote a poem about his recent victory and his dad published it in the newspaper. At this point Spinelli realised that his career of a Majou League Baseball player is over and he is better off a writter. He got a regular job and during his free time he would always be writing his novels. At first his novels were intended for adults but none sold well. when he wrote his fifth novel, which was also intended for adults but became a children's book. He married Eileen Mesi who also writes children books. they have six children and sixteed grandchildren. Setting The main setting in this book is the Warshaw Poland 1939 during World War 2. Characters -- Misha - A very young orphan boy. Most of the times he is very confused. He doesn't know who he is or why he exists and hes alright with that. Hes fast and daring. He does not understand many things in life and is always called silly or stupid. Misha dosent have a name so he has been called many different names.

-- Uri - a mysterious teenage boy living in Warsaw during the Holocaust. he found Misha on the street and took him in.

-- Janina - A Jewish girl that mets Misha when he stole some tomatoes from her garden. She is as a bit selfish and has an agressive side. Her and Misha develop a tight relationship of a brother and a sister. She has a obsession with pickled Eggs. Conflict This book contains many conflicts, but the main conflict in this story is the World War 2. Misha a young orphan used to live by stealing food for himself. One day an older boy catches him and brings him into their group of other Jewish orphan boys. Later they are taken into the ghetto . Misha sneaks out through a hole in the wall to smugle food for his "family". He lives with a girl that he considers his sister and her parents. So he starts to walk on the railtracks toward the direstion the train left. He was picked up by several farmars and given home and food for work. Soon after the World War 2 ends he finds himself back at Warsaw, the town where the ghetto was. He then sells enough things to make the mooney to travel to America where he marries a women, but he was too crazy for her so she left him. Some time later his unknown daughter finds him and tells him he has a grandchild. Plot Summary The book is about an orphaned boy without a name living in Warsaw, Poland in the years of World War II during the Holocaust. He lived by stealing food, but one day an older boy named Uri, catches him and takes him into their group of older orphan boys. He meets a girl named Janina, who he stole some tomatoes from and in return for that he left a little of food on her porch every day. Soon the Germans are sending the Jews into the ghetto and they are all taken. Janina's family takes the boy in as his own and make him a part of their family. They are all fighting for their lives in the ghetto by smugling food, trying not to be seen by the jackboots, and just simply being a nobudy. THE END Recomindations I recomend this book to people who would like to read a story about holocause from a perspective of a child and to see and understand it as a child.
