Louis Riel leads his first of 2 rebellions. The Red River Rebellion.
The Canadian West Through Time
Manitoba joins confederation on July 15.
In 1885, the last spike of the Canadian Pacific Railway was driven in at Craigallachie, British Columbia fulfilling the promise that Canada made to BC in 1871.
On May 23. The North-West Mounted Police was
formed to bring law and order to the West.
Mass immigration in the West created the Provinces of Alberta and Saskatchewan.
On July 15. The Dominion of Canada purchases the Northwest Territories from the Hudson Bay Company.
The Klondike Gold Rush has caused a massive increase in the population of the Yukon separating it from NWT on June 13.
