Do You Have Map Skills? Map Key:
The part of a map that shows what symbols stand for.
A map key is used for explaining the meaning of each symbol. Compass Rose:
The symbol on a map that shows direction: North, South, East, West, and the half directions.
A compass rose is used for indicating where north is. Map Scale:
The part of a map that compares a point on a map to a location in the real world.
A map scale is used for showing distance. Lake:
A large considerable body of water. River:
A large stream of water that runs through the land. Mountain:
Land that rises above 8,202 feet = 2500 meters = 1.5 miles.
