They began to stretch telephone lines across the country, which eventually led to cheaper goods for consumers.
We will never know if there was a rivalry between the two men.
Mr. Flager built such a fast and luxurious train that could go to NY in a 20 hour trip. Mr. Plant...one of his ships could carry 700 passengers to Jamaica in a luxurious and comfortable way.
Development:
Flagler and Plant wanted to bring in more tourists and in order to make that happen, Flagler made many hotels. Flagler first built 3 hotels in ST. Augustine. Flagler also made a luxury hotel in hopes of bringing in richer people to make more money. Plant on the other hand really worked hard to make his steamboat dream come true. While Plant was working on that he also built a few hotels in Florida. Plant's main focus however was the Grand Duchess.
