Transcript of Global Warming

What is Global Warming?
gradual increase in the Earth's average temperature

caused by greenhouse gas emissions

caused by human activity interfering with the natural cycle of the environment

causes more disasters like droughts, stronger storms and typhoons, rising sea levels

extinct species and floods, as well as less fresh water availability.

people as well as animals will have to relocate
What about agriculture?
And The Economy?
Global GDP is rising, as a result, greenhouse gases are rising

Fishing, agriculture, forestry and mining industries are in danger

Warmer temperatures will change or even wipe out jobs such as construction workers

Large economic losses from natural disasters
And the Government?
Governments have provided little funding towards climate change research

Are relunctant to make serious efforts to reduce carbon emissions

Governments and businesses fear the losses from restrictions more than climate change itself
Global Warming:
Is it hot in here, or is it just me?

How Does Global Warming Affect Human Health?
allergies and asthma in people worsens by 4.5% for every 1°C increase

increased cases of lung cancer, heart disease, and even dementia.

more heat waves, causing more deaths, especially in the elderly and young children.

cases of dengue fever, malaria, Lyme disease, heart disease, and West Nile virus have also increased

stewardship of the earth

the common good

participation

option for the poor

solidarity

Catholic Social Teachings
How Does Global Warming Affect You As a Mary Ward Student/Teenager?

What can you do? How can you help?
Renewable Resources
`
global warming increases problems that occur in harvest fields, which will spread more diseases

increased demand for meat means that there is an increase in methane emissions

problems also occur under large bodies of water

deforestation destroys animals' homes, but it destroys our Earth

yields of crops are getting lower

farmers are losing their livelihoods
wind turbines, solar panels, hydroelectricity, and geothermal heat pumps

youth can be inspired and voice their opinions in order to persuade politicians to take serious action on reducing carbon emissions.
