Dance comes from the Old French, it means to move rythmically usually to music, using prescribed or improvised steps and gestures. Types Of Dances Early 1900's In the early 1920s-
The Charleston dance was highly influenced by the cakewalk that was danced by both blacks and whites. The Creole Show In 1891 By Vivian Perez
Canchola Modern dance from the early 1900s was revolutionized by Isadora Duncan, who danced barefoot to Chopin and Strauss. Dances were started out by Minstrel parodies that was a form of entertainment in the 1800's-1900's. They originated in the 1700's. In 1891, the Creole Show, a revue staged on Broadway in New York City, brought minstrel dances as well as other plantation dances, to a wide audience. Swing dates back to the 1920s, when the Charleston dance was derived from contemporary jazz. In the 1940's The Jitterbug was a popular dance. In the 1950's and 1960's the main popular songs to dance to were ROCK N' ROLL. In the 1970s, Disco and the punk genres were the main dance styles in that time era. 1980's-
Hip Hop culture originated in New York amongst young hispanic and African American communities during the 1960's. The style of hip hop, break dancing and body popping was yet to be known until the 1980's, it was internationally known. 1990's- 2000
The Macarena Dance was very popular and the one two step and crumping. 1990-2000's Era
In this era the main dance style was very modern.
They moved a lot more freely. They came across punk dancing, Latin dancing, etc. A variety of dances were introduced. In the 2000-2012
Hip Hop, Jazz, Ballet, Latin Dancing, House dancing, Crip Walking, Krumping, etc. All these dances are part of today's world. We combine and dance to old dance styles from the 1800's still today.
