By Brian Murphy Colon cancer is cancer of the large intestine, the lower part of your digestive system. Description About 112,000 people are diagnosed with colon cancer annually, and about 41,000 new cases of rectal cancer are diagnosed each year colon cancer begins as small, noncancerous (benign) clumps of cells called adenomatous polyps this is what doctors look for in a colonoscopy to tell if you have colon cancer
Causes of Colon Cancer There are 15 main causes of colon cancer These are: Smoking, Polyps, Personal Medical History, Obesity, Lack of Exercise, Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), Genetics, Gender, Family Medical History, Environment, Diet, Diabetes, Alcohol, Age Who does colon cancer effect? Colon cancer effects 112,000 people a year Most between the ages of 40 and 80 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DJ7ev1dynTs Colon cancer is discovered through a process known as a colonoscopy Adult Symptoms include:Abdominal pain, Blood in stool, Chest pain, Constipation, Cough, Diarrhea, Difficulty swallowing, Dizziness, Eye discomfort and redness, Foot pain or ankle pain, Foot swelling or leg swelling, Headaches, Heart palpitations, Hip pain, Knee pain, Low back pain, Nasal congestion, Nausea or vomiting, Neck pain, Numbness or tingling in hands, Pelvic pain, male Shortness of breath, Shoulder pain, Sore throat, Urinary problems, Vision problems
Wheezing Adult symptoms Preventions The main prevention of colon cancer is a healthy diet To treat it there are many methods but the one proven most effective is chemotherapy A cure is possible but is not anywhere close yet Current research is being conducted, scientists are working hard but are still far from the cure Long-term for patients Patients can have varying lifestyles based on there treatment path.
If the patient goes through chemotherepy they can expect dramatic lifestyle changes like any one else who has gone through chemotherapy
