Transcript of William Golding

William Golding He was born on September 19, 1911 and he died in 1993. He also was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1983 for literature. He was educated at Marlborough Grammar School and at Brasenose College,in Oxford He won the coveted book prize in 1980. He wrote 12 novels, as well as plays, essays, short stories, poems and travel books about Egypt. He always knew that he wanted to be a writer. His parents wanted him to become a scientist, but he refused. He was an actor, a musician, a school master, a lecturer and a sailor. His father was a school master aswell and his mother was a suffragette. A suffragette was someone who was active in the women's rights movement He became part of the Royal Navy in 1940. He was a member for 5 years. Lord of the Flies was origanlly titled The Strangers Within. It was published 29 years before the Noble Prize was given to him. His book was denied by 21 publishers before it was permitted by Faber and Faber. William Golding He was solitary, yet wrote about people in big groups and their affect on each other. He was married to Am Brookfield in September of 1939. They had two children. One son and one daughter. Fun facts

He was knighted by the Queen of England.
He commanded a rocket ship during his five years in the Navy.
