Transcript of The Food Equation

“Last year, more than 47 million Americans lived in households that had difficulty putting food on the table and USDA helped provide a hunger safety net for these families. In times of record need, USDA has provided critical nutrition assistance to millions of families.”
(USDA) THE
ELEMENTS {HAVE} {NEED} TO RECAP: Our CULTURE

affects our HABITS

which affect our

BODIES...MINDS...and SOULS. The Food Equation Sugar
Sodium
Caffeine
Fats + AVAILABILITY + HABITS = PROBLEMS
About of the money that Americans spend on food is used to buy processed items.
Even without food stamps, Americans still choose faster, easier options.

"Fast food is easy, filling, convenient, and inexpensive." It's packed with The Elements. Just how much of
The Elements do we eat? Sugar

Sodium

Caffeine

Fats 133 g (33 tablespoons) 32 g (8 tablespoons) 3, 436 mg 500 mg (recommended 2,500 mg) 250 mg 0 (recommended 200 mg) 150 g 50 -70 g Speaking of fats... PROBLEM NUMBER ONE:
AVAILABILITY Losing your appetite? It's really hard for the average American to find cheap, unprocessed food. This processed food is often packed with too much of The Elements and everything else we don't need. Too much of this food can have a negative impact on our bodies, minds, and souls in the long run. PROBLEM NUMBER TWO:
WE ARE CREATURES OF HABIT. PROBLEM NUMBER THREE:
THE BIGGIE (there's just not enough of what we need) Those with poor economic resources are dependent upon what the government deems "acceptable" with food stamps. Therefore, they eat what is available and cheapest... ...not necessarily what is healthiest...

...which is unfortunate, because our bodies . take the heat & & (caffeine) (sodium) (who knows, really, but a lot of fats) & (sugar) (Eric Schlosser, Fast Food Nation) So, all this cheap, processed food we eat so much of? that's us. it's really dark. 90% (Body Ecology)
