Cons: More Casualties
According to child psychologist Ken Corbett:

Arming educators violates the safety of kids
Kids get their hands on everything, meaning they could locate guns in classrooms and cause harm to themselves or others
Con: Lacking Skills
Over 10,000 teachers took a survey in 2013 on School Improvement Network

-Have you been offered training in firearm safety or a concealed carry course from your school, district, or state since the Sandy Hook shooting?
Yes 3.4%
No 96.6%
According to: Eric Dietz the director of Purdue University's homeland security institute:

Having guns would improve response time by 80 percent, would not leave students as "sitting ducks"

Casualties reduced by 2/3
"Yes, professional educators carrying lethal weapons is probably unthinkable to some. But previously unthinkable dangers can sometimes only be neutralized by previously unthinkable defenses."
-Wall Street Journal
Pros: Precedents (Israel)
The sound of giving gentle molders of young minds should not carry lethal weapons..... However,
In Israel armed teachers are common, and terrorist attacks at schools nonexistent

Only during a 1997 visit by Israeli schoolgirls to the "Island of Peace" , in which the teachers had been asked to leave their weapons behind, that an Arab gunman took advantage of an easy opportunity to open fire
This killed 6 students
Precedents cont. (U.S)
In 1997, 16-year-old Luke Woodham entered Pearl High School in Pearl, Miss., armed with his estranged father's hunting rifle and dozens of cartridges. When Woodham opened fire, vice principal Joel Myrick sprinted to the parking lot, grabbed a Colt .45 automatic pistol from his truck and forced the gunman to surrender by pointing the gun at his head.

Great example of reduced casualties and increased response time

This has been the only practical solution to an ever growing problem

Also, decimates shooter's mentality
Pro Arms
Con Arms

Background: "The Great Debate"
The American Liberal vs. Conservative
From the creation of the constitution Liberalism and Conservatives have disagreed in several ways: These differences stem as far back as the argument between federalist (Liberalism) and anti-federalist (Conservatives)

: Prefer smaller government, less regulation, most services to be provided by the private sector in a free market, and a literal interpretation of the Constitution.

: Prefer more regulation and services like free universal health care to be provided by the government to all citizens.

It has been said that no one who has a heart can resist being a liberal and that no one who has a brain can avoid being a conservative - Dr. Jim L. Riley
The American Political Spectrum
The American Political Spectrum
The terms “left” and “right” define opposite ends of the political spectrum. In the United States, liberals are referred to as the left or left-wing and conservatives are referred to as the right or right-wing.

Conservatives: Support guns in schools
Liberals: Do not

Teachers themselves can use guns improperly as well

6th grade teacher in Utah wounded herself by accidental fire
Professor at Idaho State University shot himself in the foot
Civic Discourse/Responsibility
Different biases as Ap students we must exercise our free thought and form our own opinions
of the teachers would be more unlikely to bring a gun to school
Due to recent events such as the Columbine massacre and Sandy Hook more and more are asking "Should teachers be armed?"

The eruption of the gun debate has erupted nationwide and the decision is up to you!

While response time may increase, who's to say that the response will be accurate?
A criminologist, author and educator at the Center for Homicide Research, Dallas S. Drake, wrote a research report on teachers with guns.
Police officers can limit/stop deaths brought on by mass shooter
Trained to shoot and kill active shooters and handle it
Have a "life-safety mindset" from experience while teachers do not
Criminologist Grant Duwe (2005), the number of mass shootings has been decreasing over the last 30 yrs.
Do you feel that having an armed police officer in your school would improve safety or make your school less safe?
said it would improve in some way
Big amount of teachers are not trained to use firearms
Yet 18 states have legalized loaded guns on school grounds
Most teachers themselves would not want to bring a gun to school.
According to Ken Trump, president of National School Safety and Security Services and Steve Smith, superintendent of the Bibb County School District in Atalanta, GA:

Teachers will never be qualified to provide public safety services

Val Van Brocklin, acclaimed speaker, trainer, and author:
A teacher's job is to teach
