Lord of the Flies Island Map!
Island Shape
“It was roughly boat-shaped: humped near this
end with behind them the jumbled descent to the shore. On either side rocks, cliffs, treetops and a steep slope: forward there, the length of the boat, a tamer descent, tree-clad, with hints of pink: and then the jungly flat of the island, dense green, but drawn at the end to a pink tail.”

The other side was not protected by the lagoon
Castle Rock
“There, where the island petered out in water, was another island; a rock, almost detached, standing like a fort,”

“When Roger came to the neck of land that joined the Castle Rock to the mainland he was not surprised to be challenged.”

“A hundred feet below them was the narrow causeway, then the stony ground, then the grass dotted with heads, and behind that the forest.”
The Coral Reef
“The reef enclosed more than one side of the island, lying perhaps a mile out and parallel to what they now thought of as their beach.”

“Out there, perhaps a mile away, the white surf flinked on a coral reef,"
The Pacific
"on a coral reef, and beyond that the open sea.."

“The great Pacific tide was coming in.”
The Lagoon
“Within the irregular arc of coral the lagoon was still as a mountain lake.”
The Platform
“Here the beach was interrupted abruptly by the square motif of the landscape; a great platform of pink granite thrust up uncompromisingly through forest and terrace and sand and lagoon to make a raised jetty four feet high.”
Bathing Pool
“There was a general dispersal. Ralph, Jack and Simon jumped off the platform and walked along the sand past the bathing pool.” This proves that the bathing pool is close to the platform.
The Scar
“All round him the long scar smashed into the jungle was a bath of heat.”

“The ground beneath them was a bank covered with coarse grass, torn everywhere by the upheavals of fallen trees, scattered with decaying coconuts and palm saplings. Behind this was the darkness of the forest proper and the open space of the scar.”
The Mountain and Cliffs
“This part of the beach was nearer the mountain than any other that they had seen.”

“We shan’t see round this corner,” said Jack, “because there isn’t one. Only a slow curve—and you can see, the rocks get worse—” Ralph shaded his eyes and followed the jagged outline of the crags up toward the mountain."

“Beyond the hollow was the square top of the mountain and soon they were standing on it.”
The Clearing
“He came at last to a place where more sunshine fell.”

“He squatted down, parted the leaves and looked out into the clearing.” NOTE: Simon was looking out from his mat.
Locations where Major events occur
and structures made by the boys.
Simon's Mat
Getting to his spot. “Simon turned away from them and went where the just perceptible path led him. Soon high jungle closed in.” … “He came at last to a place where more sunshine fell.” (The Clearing)... “Then he bent down and wormed his way into the center of the mat.”
The Huts
“Wait a minute! I mean, who built all three? We all built the first one, four of us the second one, and me ’n Simon built the last one over there. That’s why it’s so tottery. No. Don’t laugh. That shelter might fall down if the rain comes back. We’ll need those shelters then.”

Chapter Three is called “Huts on the Beach.”
Piggy's Death Rock
“Piggy, saying nothing, with no time for even a grunt, traveled through the air sideways from the rock (Piggy was holding on to a rock on the causeway to Castle Rock) , turning over as he went. The rock bounded twice and was lost in the forest. Piggy fell forty feet and landed on his back across the square red rock in the sea. His head opened and stuff came out and turned red. Piggy’s arms and legs twitched a bit, like a pig’s after it has been killed.”
The Roast and Simon's Death
“Long before Ralph and Piggy came up with Jack’s lot, they could hear the party. There was a stretch of grass in a place where the palms left a wide band of turf between the forest and the shore.”

After eating, Jack started a chant and disorientated Simon came out of the trees. Thinking that he was the beast the boys killed Simon.

“Simon’s dead body moved out toward the open sea.”
First Fire
“There’s another thing. We can help them to find us. If a ship comes near the island they may not notice us. So we must make smoke on top of the mountain. We must make a fire.”
Lord of the Flies
“Simon stayed where he was, a small brown image, concealed by the leaves.” Simon is at his spot )The Clearing/Mat. "and in front of Simon, the Lord of the Flies hung on his stick and grinned."
