Transcript of Monday 10.5.15

This week's Achieve 3000 article is about the artisinal coffee shop, Blue Bottle Coffee.
Thought Question
This week's thought question asks you:
Imagine you are visiting a Blue Bottle Cafe in Japan. Write a journal entry about the cafe and its coffee.

Using the Highlighters to Annotate
While you read the article, you should use the highlighters to annotate text that will help you to respond to the thought question. We won't have time to write the thought question this week, but you will get credit for annotating in preparation. You should annotate using the colors listed below and paste your annotations into the thought question text box.
Steps to Get Started
1. Log on to the laptop and open a Chrome window.
2. Type portal.achieve300.com in the address bar
3. Sign in to TeenBiz using your username and password
4. Click "Start" to begin working with the article.
5. Complete the Before Reading Poll using at least one sentence to justify your response.
6. Read the article closely using the
color

code
system
to annotate facts and details that would help you to answer the thought question.
Practice Answering Questions
Now, you've been assigned to a small group. In your small group, go through the questions in the activity and DISCUSS what the correct answer is for each, being careful to arrive at a consensus. Then, discuss WHY each of the incorrect answers is incorrect, making notes next to each incorrect answer.

When you've finished discussing each question on the handout, use your newly gained expertise to
complete the activity on your laptop.
Reflecting on Your Process
1. Did highlighting/annotating help you to be more prepared for the questions on the ACTIVITY?
2. Did talking about the questions with your peers help you be more prepared for the questions on the ACTIVITY?
3. How did this experience compare with your last experience reading an article using Achieve 3000?
