All veterinarians must get a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Degree (DVM) Only 26 colleges offer programs to get this degree. By Megan Harmon Clinical Veterinarian Description A person who performs medical or surgical practices on animals. Responsibilities Vets are in charge of taking care of sick animals.

- they do blood tests, x-rays, and other tests
- they give vaccinations to prevent disease Education and Training It has been my dream to be a vet since Kindergarten.
I believe this job suits me since I am passionate for animals and would love to take care of them. Vets also perform surgery for broken bones, tumors, and wounds, and do check ups every few months for animals. High School All veterinarians must go to college. This typically takes 4 years where they study biology, chemistry, physics, nutrition, and animal science. The next step is to go to veterinary college for 4 more years. Colleges Canyon Crest Academy Why Do This? Salary/Hours The average salary of a veterinarian in California is $95,000. The average work time of a vet can range anywhere from 40-70 hours per week. I love animals, so being around them everyday and helping them as a vet would be good for me.
