Transcript of Demi Lovato
Age and Birthday
Demi Lovato was born on August 20th, 1992 in Dallas, Texas, and is now 21 years old.
Demi was born with the name Demetria Devonne Lovato to her mother Dianna, a country singer that opened for Reba Macintyre, George Strait and other various country stars and her father Patrick, who both divorced when Demi was 3 years of age. Demi credits her mother when it comes to her singing abilities. After her mother remarried to a different man, Patrick was no longer deemed as a father-figure for Demi.
What is Demi Lovato famous for?
Demi is a famous singer and actress, having acted in Barney and Friends from an early age. She then began auditioning for and getting parts in various shows and movies for Disney, such as
Sonny with a Chance
Why did you choose this person?
I chose Demi Lovato because I find her to be a very inspirational person and have been a fan of her music and acting for a long time. She's also one of the only artists I've supported throughout their entire carrer.
During Demi's teenage years, she was diagnosed with anorexia, bulimia, depression and bipolar disorder. She also dealt with issues of self-mutilation and substance abuse.
In the middle of her tour with the Jonas Brothers in 2010, Demi checked into rehab for three months to deal with her issues. Also, her mother had threatened Demi by saying she wasn't going to be allowed to see her little sister anymore, which also caused Demi to want to seek help.
Demi was tormented by bullies in her childhood and is now still dealing with them over the Internet.
Her first outlet was self-mutilation, because of which she checked herself into rehab to seek help. Demi now claims that having to go through the experience of bullying and then rebab, she is now a stronger person and brushes off most hurtful comments.
Demi's biological father died from cancer in the summer of 2013. She describes his funeral as, "the hardest thing she's ever done" which she tweeted the day of the funeral.
Overcoming Obstacle Three
Demi created the Lovato Treatment Scholarship program in her father's honor. The program covers expenses for people struggling with health or addiction issues.
Biggest Challenges While Trying to Overcome Obstacles
The biggest challenges Demi faced while trying to overcome her obstacles were social media and constant attention from the press. Social media criticized Demi even when in rehab. The press watched and over-analyzed everything Demi did.
Changes After Overcoming Obstacles
Demi is now living a happy and healthy lifestyle. She doesn't care what people thing of her body or the rude things they say about her.
After going through her many obstacles, Demi wrote a book called "Staying Strong: 365 Days a Year" that is a New York Times Best Seller.
Demi has also released numerous hit singles, such has "Skyscraper", "Give Your Heart a Break", and "Heart Attack." She is also currently on her Neon Lights Tour to promote her newest album
Standing up Against Bullying
Recently, Demi has become an ambassador for Secret's new anti-bullying campaign called "Mean Stinks." She has been traveling to schools across the country to speak about anti-bullying.
