"One of the few things in life that cannot possibly do harm in the end is the honest
pursuit of the truth." -Peter Kreeft
USUALLY FROM A
PLACE OF SUFFERING!
You are becoming what your son or daughter will see in you.
“The search for truth is more precious than its possession.”
Truth-a verified or indisputable fact, proposition, principle, or the like
What is T/truth?
Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. John 14:6
List examples of truth under these definitions---be ready to share
Is there such a thing as absolute truth?
- truth which stands on its own and is unchanging....if so give examples
"Truth means knowing existent objects and falsity does not exist, nor error, but only ignorance." Man can know things as they truly are; ignorance of their existence does not mean things do not exist, but that man has yet to know them.A thing has its own integrity. Therefore, it cannot be true for one man and false for another. There is one truth, and individual men are more of less ignorant of that truth.
Aristotle on absolute truth
“I think therefore I am”
Father of modern Philosophy
I decide what is right or wrong! This philosophy ushered in a new worldview!!! Moral relativism replaced moral absolutes.
Science, technology, material affluence, sexual permissiveness, and the threat of nuclear annihilation brought new concerns
a self-evident proposition is one that is known to be true by understanding its meaning without proof
* A finite whole is greater than any of its parts
*It is impossible for the something to be and not be at the same time in the same manner
Moral propositions that are self-evident
The means ought to be proportioned to the end.
philosophically, that proposition is not necessarily self-evident, and the subsequent propositions surely are not. Nevertheless, many would agree that the proposition we ought to treat subjects known to be equal in a certain sense equally in regard to that sense is morally self-evident
"That what is, is and that what is not is not"
Aquinas (Summa Theologica)
"If you place [your bet] with God, you lose nothing, even if it turns out that God does not exist. But if you place it against God, and you are wrong and God does exist, you lose everything." Pascal's Wager
Truth's that Mrs. Sue wants to share
Rick Warren…most basic question everyone faces in life is Why am I here? What is my purpose?
You shall know the truth and the truth
shall set you free!!!!! John 8:32
The path of prayer and love and the path of suffering seem to be the two Great Paths of transformation.
Suffering seems to get our attention; love and prayer seem to get our heart and our passion. Richard Rohr
King of Kings
What do you believe about Jesus?
Path to truth
If you were the only soul to save he would have
done it for you...lost sheep, lost coin, lost son
Character is Destiny
Sir Thomas More
Forgiveness is necessary
1 last truth to share
How do we come to know truth?
