hyena
Their eyes have "tapetum lucidum" and that reflects light so they are able to see in the dark better than in the day time.
This helps them so they can kill their prey in the night when they are asleep.
They have extendable claws on each toe so they can climb trees on grab and hold onto their prey.
They can climb trees to escape from animals (not to be disturbed.) Also be able to catching dinner while it is on the go.
The long ears of a wild dog can pick up voice calls from far away.
They can hear animals that need help or support, they can hear their prey or hear their predators
Their multicolored coats blend in with the Savanna environment
Then their predators will not be able to see them as well.
They have an excellent hearing and scent abilities.
So they can hear or smell the predator coming toward them.
Antelope have long,strong muscular legs
So they can run away on short notice
Zebras have that nice striped coat to make it harder for their predators to judge distance.
Then they can roam freely without a predator always on their tail.
They live in herds so when one zebra gets taken down the rest know to run away.
Zebras have a much better chance of staying alive together when feeding time starts
Use their long, strong tails to swing from branch to branch to get away from animals
If the animal tries to catch up with them then the baboon would keep going until it the animal stopped running
The thick fur on their body keep them warm at night.
protects them from thorns, bites, rocks.
carnivore
They have sharp eyesight in the dark and great hearing abilities.
They would able to see their sleeping prey in the night. be able to hear the breathing of the animal or hear it moving in the distance.
Use their voice calls to communicate with other hyenas to know where everyone is.
Are able to stay in a pack and be able to take away food from other animals faster.
African savanna
Facts
Africa covers 12 million square miles~ 31 million sq. km
Second largest continent in the world!
Home of human species which developed there 5 million years ago.
Climate:
Uneven rain fall
10-30 inches of precipitation
Temperature 68-86 degrees F
Symbiotic Relationships
Mutualism
Commensalism
Parasitism
Rhino &
Ox-pecker
The ox-pecker eats ticks off rhinos bodies to help the rhino stay alive and the ox-pecker gets a meal.
Termites
Acacia tree
Termites use and feed off of the tree and steal all of its nutrients then the termite gets a meal while the tree dies.

Weather disasters:
Droughts:
cause many deaths by dehydration

Wildfire
: burns the grass so herbivores start to die off.(wildfire starts by lightning striking the grass)

The small amount of rainfall and the dry winter season keep the savanna stable(the ground) for animals to be able to move on. If more rainfall were to occur, or more global warming the savanna ecosystem would be a tropical mush.
If the savanna wasn't the savanna. . .
Maasai people
Lions
Hyenas
Lions hunt down and eat their food then the hyena comes around eat eats the leftovers.
Zebra
2 groups make up this tribe the Kenya and Tanzania. They live in huts with 10-20 people inside. they are warriors and are also nomadic and raise cattle. They believe that it is okay to steal something from another tribe because they received free cattle.

Acacia tree
Stinging ants
The acacia tree has thorns and the stinging ants borrow into them and get the nutrients and the stinging ants also fight other parasites so the tree doesn't die.
Elephants
bee-eaters
The bird rides on the backs until they find insects and eat them while the elephant does nothing but walk.
