Understanding College Basics:
Jan 3:
Last day to pay for preregistered students; classes will be deleted for non-payment.
Jan 4:
ACADEMIC PURGE | Preregistered students who haven't paid fees will be deleted from classes at 7:00AM (MyMotlow closed during this process); Registration reopens at 8AM
Jan 16:
Last day for 100% refund; Last day to register or add classes
Jan 17:
Classes Begin!
Jan 30:
Last day to drop classes & be deleted from the roll.
Mar 6-12:
Spring Break!
Apr. 28- May 4:
Final Exams


IMPORTANT DATES FOR
SPRING 2017
Credit Hours:
The number of hours a course meets per week. Most are 3 hours. Some Math and Science courses are 4 hours.
Remember 15 to Finish!

Full-time Student:
12 credit hours or more.

Part-time Student:
Under 12 credit hours.

Major or Program of Study:
Classes needed to complete a degree.

Advisor:
One who assists students in creating an academic plan and helps select classes.

Prerequisite Classes:
Classes needed before certain classes
may be taken.

Co-requisite Classes:
Classes that have to be taken together. Example: READ 0810 & MSCC 1300

Course Outline/Syllabus:
An outline of topics to be covered along with class expectations and instructor information.

Elective:
A college level course which is not required in a student’s program of study, but one which students elect to take to meet elective hour requirements; excludes learning support classes.

Purge:
A student’s class schedule will be dropped for non-payment of fees or class confirmation.

Foreign language classes are required.

Associate of Science – A.S.
No foreign language is required.

Associate of Fine Arts – A.F.A.
Music emphasis; No foreign language is required.

Associate of Science in Teaching – A.S.T.
PreK-3 or K-5 teaching majors that are university bound
Associate of Applied Science – A.A.S.
Career-ready degree
– not designed to transfer (except for Mechatronics; transferable to MTSU)
Certificate-
Specialized training programs include (short term):
Early Childhood Education, Emergency Medical Training, Paramedic, Mechatronics
Degree Options
Tennessee Transfer Pathway – TTP
A program of study designed to transfer
to a participating university with the guarantee of entering as a junior and keeping all earned credits once an associate degree has been earned.

University Parallel-
A program of study designed to transfer to a university that may be reviewed by the university on a course-by-course basis.

Why Should You Earn Your MSCC Degree Before You Transfer?
Traditional
A course taught in a traditional classroom setting where the instructor is
present

Online or Web
An online Motlow College course with Motlow College instructors
and Motlow College fees; completed online

TN eCampus
An online course that may or may not have a Motlow instructor
The fees for these courses are slightly more expensive.

Hybrid
A course where a portion of the course is taught in person and a portion is online

Interactive Television (ITV)

A course that has an instructor but he/she may or may not be physically in the classroom
