Transcript of Ocean Pollution

Pollution is a
Seabirds, whales and other animals are eating the plastic pollution which causes them to die from choking, starvation and intestinal blockage.

Seabirds, sea turtles and seals along with other swimming animals are killed because they ingested plastic or got tangled in it.

Think about every piece of plastic you touch or recycle in a day.

How much of your plastic do you think is recycled?
Only three percent of the plastic is recycled and most of it ends up in a landfil
Please save these creatures from dying remember the jingle reduse reuse recycle you could be saving a life
Let's talk about
80% of marine litter is on land, but most of it is plastic.

When plastic pollutes our oceans, and other waterways it can cause severe damage on the environment.

The Great Pacific Gyre

The North Pacific Gyre, is known as the Great Pacific Garbage Patch.
It is the size of Eastern Australia.
In this whale they found 100 plastic bags
What's going on

Every year billions of pounds of wasted plastic can be found in the oceans.
When the pollution gets first started it is on land but wind and rain pushes it out to the ocean and it just starts to accumulate more.
The EPA says that “Every bit of plastic ever made still exists.”

More facts
Plastic can take thousands of years to decay, but if we let it decay the chemicals will be in our grounds.
The chemicals in the plastics are causing the fish and other wildlife to become toxic to us humans and other wildlife.

I hope you will make
difference now that you
know what has been going on.

The GreatPacific Gyre continue
Someone will litter and not know it.
That piece of garbage goes from being on land to being a part of the ocean by the rain, wind and currents.
The wind and rain will push the garbage out into a stream then the stream will carry the garbage to a river.
The river then carries it away.

When the river empties into the ocean the garbage also empties out to.
Now its in the ocean, but most people ask how does it get from one part of the ocean to the north pacific?
The currents do it.
The Great Pacific Gyre continue
The currants will move the garbage then we have a problem.
Because the garbage has started to accumulate more and more there making it hard for the animals to live there.
The Great Pacific Gyre continue
Let's talk about
In L.A alone 10 metric tons of plastic finds its way to the ocean.

Billions of tons of plastic makes up 40% of the ocean’s surface.

Plastic Pollution has a deathly toll on the wildlife that is in it and that lives around it.
Animals that are endangered are the Hawaiian Monk seals and Pacific Loggerhead sea turtles. They among nearly 300 other species eat or get tangled in the plastic that is littered.

This century we had made more plastic than we had all the way up to 2000.
What's going on continued
By recycling and reusing, we will all be making a difference but nothing will change the fact that the ocean is damaged. clean up is not possible without destroying the ocean habitats that have formed around the garbage that is there.
