Pembuatan Asam Sulfat(Melalui Proses Kontak)
Ada 3 tahapan penting, yaitu :
- membuat sulfur dioksida (SO
2
)
- mengkoversinya menjadi (SO
3
)
- konversi (SO
3
) menjadi (H
2
SO
4
).




Pertama, belerang dibakar menjadi belerang dioksida.
S(s) + O2(g) ----> SO2(g)
Belerang dioksida kemudian dioksidasi lebih lanjut menjadi belerang trioksida.
2SO2(g) + O2(g) <====> 2SO3(g) H=-98kj
Belerang trioksida dilarutkan dalam asam sulfat membentuk asam pirosulfat.
H2SO4(aq) + SO3(g) = H2S2O7(l)

Asam pirosulfat direaksikan dengan air membentuk asam sulfat pekat.
H2S2O7(l) + H2O(l) = H2SO4 (aq)

Proses pembuatan asam sulfat dengan kadar 98%
Reaksi ini berlangsung pada suhu sekitar 500 derajat C
Tekanan 1 atm dengan katalisator V2O5.
Kemudian gas SO2 dilarutkan dlm asam sulfat pekat hingga
jadi asam sulfat pekat berasap.
(disebut oleum, H2SO4.SO3 atau H2S2O7).
