Transcript of "The mask"-Kleis Val

Author
Kleis Val isn't a very well known author so I wasn't able to find much of the basic information about her. Judging by the theme of the poem she has written I can interpret that she has strong feelings as to what she is writing about and it connects deeply to her.

published on April 18 2015
poem
Literally
Symbolic
The true meaning of the poem may be that a girl is struggling with her true self and is fighting a battle with depression. Her way of coping with this is to put on a "mask" which symbolizes her faking true feelings and everyday life.
literary devices
"The mask" By Kleis Val
She smiles, I cry.
She is outgoing, I am shy.
She loves, I am alone.
She is amazing, I am unknown.
She is beautiful, I am a mess.
She is happy, I am depressed.
My mask is perfect:
She hides me

If this poem was to be taken literally then the girl in the poem would be talking about a mask that she can physically wear.
