by a group of professionals, by hairstylists and makeup artists and photographers and stylists and all of their assistants and pre-production and post-production, and they build this.
That's not me.

I know we're getting personal, but I was a
young girl.
This is what I looked like with my grandma just a few months earlier. Here's me on the same day as this shoot. My friend got to come with me. Here's me at a slumber party a few days before I shot French Vogue. Here's me on the soccer team and in V Magazine.

Ba
sed on body language and other factors what do you think they are saying and why?
I believe the song is trying to imply for people to dance and disco, as well as to have a good time. It also seems that the two main people shown are attracted to one another.
How does this video make you feel and why???
This video makes me want to dance with them, especially when the dance in a large group, but I feel dumb founded at what they are saying. I think that the language is strange.
What do you think of the people in the video and why?????
The people in the video made me laugh a little when I saw the older men in the ferris wheel start to sing as the wheel was moving. Although it is strange to me, it seems perfectly normal to these people and look like they are having the time of their lives. The main woman seems to want to show her sex appeal and she makes these facial expressions to the main in the pink shirt and her shirt is bare back with ties.

How does this video and the ideas it conveys differ from your culture???
Since I am asian as well, I think the barrier between the two would be the language they speak and the way they dress. The woman in my culture would dress more modestly compared to some of the way they dress in this culture. And these men dress differently then Filipinos.
Do you think others in your culture would find this acceptable????
I think some people in my culture would find this acceptable, but on a certain degree of understanding. They would be able to understand that this is indian culture and accept it as that, since we do also have a certain majority of people who have this type of culture in the Philippines. But a majority would probably find this comical as they dont see what theyre talking about or what their actions convey.
Miscellaneous : Any particular aspects you liked, hated etc... (You can be as random as you wish)
I think the song makes me laugh cause I keep thinking theyre saying "disco, baby, disco!" I like the vibrant colors they wear as well. I also laughed at the part when they showed the older men standing the ferris wheel and belt out their solos. I think I found this so comical because I was unable to understand their speaking language so I paid more attention to what I was able to v
isualize, the colors, actions, and body language.

Shivani, I will log out at 730 because I will be
going in for a job application and maybe interview at CangTong because I may be able to work there! Idk how long it will take but Ill be back on later tonight, maybe around 9ish. I can read & reply your emails on my phone so if anything happens or you want to tell me something you can email me, and I can email you as well.

In addition, shall we meet tomorrow morning at 8 am when you get to school from the bus before school in the media center? and during lunch? Do you know if Mrs. Rapp will let us work on our presentations during her period?

You can delete this text box when youre done with it!

I am ok with this , I will be here at 9. All I need you to do when you come back is put some stuff down for your analysis so we can gauge the amount it takes to present this. Also, do you have another emotional response for my video?? ALSO GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR INTERVIEW!!

Mrs. Rapp comes to school around 7:45, so how about we meet there at 7:50????
Well now that I uderstand a little more about your video, I like how all these people
are all uniting to sing about their culture and telling the pinky shirt man to get rid of
his london look! I feel like all of them are ganging up on him to lose it. haha.

Yeah Im still unsure about what else to work on other than my video & its analysis.
Am I also working on the authority of art, or truth tests? or the science behind art? I see that theres a section for each of these topics so im just unsure. I will add the content & annalysis when I come back, i may be a little slow cause I need to use my whole brain for the analyzations, hehe. But Ive been sitting here mapping them on sheets of paper.

Thanks, ill need it!
Ok, so well meet in her classroom at 7:50?
believe the song is trying to imply for people to dance and disco, as well as to have a good time
song makes me laugh cause I keep thinking they're saying "disco, baby, disco!
The main woman seems to want to show her sex appeal...her shirt is bare back with ties.
Body Language
the two main people shown are attracted to one another
Despite the fact that Angel is not part of this culture and does not understand the language, she able to understand the meaning of the eye contact and correctly understand the main character's relationship. Art is the language of emotions and Angel used empathy, a social tool, to understand a different language

Using the context theory to understand why the characters used the word disco did not work out because she used the denotation( people saying disco and dancing) and the emotions to logically imply that this song was a celebration
In Angel's culture, Bhangra style dancing does not exist and it seemed so foriegn to her that she simply saw the this indian style of dancing as a derivate of disco. Thus our culture plays a big role in interpreting art and defining what is real. According to the Sapir Whorf theory, our reality is defined by our language, but I also find it plausible that this theory could be amended to say that our reality is created by our cultural understanding.
Ambiguity
On a deeper level, maybe I am misinterpreting Angel's language, which changes my perception of her perception!
the two main people shown are attracted to one another

When I think of the word, sadly, I think of the inherent attraction between two electrons, but I think that Angel meant something else.
five senses, the vessels in which these discrepancies occur
Values: the clothing
hoping to find a partner in the bhangra with london legs and delhi hands, they have come to become unknown

There are some untranslatable words that limit my perception and Angel's secondary perception.
Understanding the word Bhangra and its societal value creates large enhancements in the tone
I am much more conservative, but to who's standards, than Angel, but this type of traditional dress is common for women in their 20's and especially in South India, which I cannot empathize with since my ancestors are North Indian.
Thus, her cultural values changed her perception on my video, giving her a cultured premise which logically led to her idea
logical Fallacies
Hasty generalization :
Post hoc ergo propter hoc:
song makes me laugh cause I keep thinking they're saying "disco, baby, disco!
There are MANY indian songs that persuade people to disco, but this is not one of them. Even if Angel fully understood the video, she still would not understand this cultural paradigm as this example is one of hundreds of thousands of indian song/dance routines. Nevertheless Angel misunderstood the video using logic, but the lack of experience created a different perception of indian culture
Perception of provocative and revealing culture
Offensive to Filipinos
Portray life that is unrealistic
Find acceptable due to celebrity influence
"I don't understand like anything"
History - westernization
Angel's relatively invalid logical conclusions create emotions that the directors, actors, and playback singers may not have expected. From my experience, I believe that this video emulated a blossoming interest that was accepted by their fathers, a phenomemon in Indian culture. Although, a person who currently lives in India may think differently. I wonder what the many rape victims in India think of this video, fructified?
Thought to be promiscuous
Lack of Knowledge - If she knew more about the culture, it would be the opposite
majority of Filipinos are conservative about their attire
KC: Filipinos who live in this area & involved in this lifestyle
"I don't understand like anything"
Creates barrier
KC: shows how art breaks it when Ashley was able to tell the promiscuity of the people; Bebot - meaning hot chick/attractive girl/woman
"I thought the word 'bebot' was a beat"
"One of the most common fallacies is to falsely claim that someone has commited a fallacy!
"The song was catchy for like a minute and then its' annoying!"
Clash of cultures
Heavy influence of American culture - but also Hip Hop
Avant gard of Filipino culture
Wouldn't be as widely popular is sung by a native Filipino band/group
Based on body language and other factors what do you think they are saying and why? I think that this song is very provocative and shows that the lifestyle of these half dressed men and women as fun and a big party.

How does this video make you feel and why??? This video is pretty annoying. Most of the people think they’re so cool frolicking around half way naked and I think this is probably really offensive to Filipino people. Also, I know the song and band, so I already had a bias because I do not really like the Black Eyed Peas.

What do you think of the people in the video and why????? I think the people in the video portray a life that is very unrealistic and inappropriate for young men and women. I think that during the early 2000’s, hip hop music made a lot of negative trends and ideology for young people.

How does this video and the ideas it conveys differ from your culture??? Well, I’m not Filipino. Also, I was raised with modesty and respect for myself, so this video is 100% different than my culture.

Do you think others in your culture would find this acceptable???? Unfortunately, I think that many others would accept this culture because the celebrity influence. The black eyed peas are famous and live glamorous lives, so many people want to be like them.

Miscellaneous : Any particular aspects you liked, hated etc... (You can be as random as you wish) The song is catchy fore like a minute and then its’ annoying! Also, I don’t understand like anything LOL

Ms. Rapp said this. Angel, you do not have to make anything for breakfast, and even if we do, we won't have alot of time to eat it. I suggest that we get there by 7:50 sharp(: (if that is okay with you)
Maybe we could bring breakfast the day of the presentation???
Yeah That would be more reasonable! & thanks for emailing Rapp!
I am writing cue cards, so that is why it looks like I did not add much
Its ok! I have to do that for my portion as well. Take your time. im not worried. :)
I know that the amount of time left to work on this has decreased, so you can just add key phrases and points of your presentation, so when we present tommorow we can gauge the time, and the logic of our presentation
ok!
This also implies that to angel that Indian are immoral
You can see a piece of trash on the ground and think of it as nothing, but if a museum picks it up, with their "superior artistic" knowledge, it gains value. It forces you to see the art as more than its physical self. For example, the trash could represent human waste and turmoil.
