Marilyn Monroe Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Jailhouse Rock Rose Park The United States started the 1950s out with the 33rd President Harry Truman. Truman took over the presidency after the death of FDR's death on April 12,1945.

Truman is mostly known for his decision that changed the world. It was Truman final decision that led to the use of the atomic bomb on Japan, to speed up the end of World War 2. Our 34th President Dwight D. Eisenhower served as the president of the United States for the remaining of the 1950s. Eisenhower was a five-star general in the United States Army and during World War 2, he served as Supreme Commander of the Allied forces in Europe. Elvis Presley was one of the most influential people in the 50s. From movies to records Elvis did it all. He is credited as single-handily change the course of music and culture in the mid-1950s by his acting, singing and dancing. . Marilyn Monroe captivated America by her beauty. She was an actress, model, and singer, who became a major sex symbol. She influence fashion and beauty in her time as well as our time. Even today she is mentioned in many songs, movies, and other things. There is no question that MLK influenced American. He fought for the equal rights of the African Americans in the United States as well as other things..He can be said to be one of the most influential people in history. He influenced American so much that he ever has a holiday on Jan. 21 Rosa Parks had a lot more influence in the 1950s then people may have thought. She was arrested for sitting and refusing to give her seat in the front of the bus (white part ).From that little act she built the path to the Civil Rights Movement. During his presidency the United States added two more states to the already 48 states. Alaska became a state on January 3, 1959 and Hawaii on August 21, 1959. Sadly his life was cut short for he died at the age of 42 of a drug overdose. Sadly just as Elvis did, Marilyn life was cut too short of a supposted "overdose" at the age of 36.
